I’m still pondering this lack of internet on my visit to France. I’ve been thinking of buying a cheap tablet and then buying a data sim in France, any suggestions?

If you just want a Chuck away one, you can’t go wrong with an Amazon one, with or without ads, I think it’s a tenner more without ads, not sure if they do data sim ones though

I may be wrong but I don't think Amazon do a pad with SIM slot.
I have one of these with a 4G 100Gb SIM in one slot (SFR RED) and a 128Gb memory card in the other:
Absolutely brilliant, can't fault the graphics power or speed.

As always, recommendations by people you "know" (like spider's) are worth more than reviews, especially reviews on Amazon.
I still like my oldish Amazon Fire HD 10" (3.5 years old, I see). I can browse the web, watch films, read books, but not all apps work well (some not at all), perhaps because of Amazon's ecosystem.
Remember you can buy a "Mifi" for the internet connection, so you're not limited to tablets with a SIM slot (but it adds some cost).

Thanks Spider that looks just the ticket. ST Vincent, I’ve got a mobile WiFi but it doesn’t work very well in France so I thought I’d wait and buy a data sim there, I think Orange has the best reception near us.

I still regret my 3G keyboard kindle went west. Using the internet on it was painful, but at least (sort of) possible, as long as your expectations were lower than Boris's morals
