Several NFF discussions in the recent past about alternatives for Microsoft Office. Sometimes the conversrion from the open source code of Open Office or Libre Office to Microsoft documents is not 100% perfect, very long documents, complex database files etc. Always room for improvement, so the guys of Libre Office keep finetuning all the time. Now available version 7.2. The German magazine "PCWELT" came with this announcement: " The free office suite Libre Office 7.2 is available for download. In the development of the new version, the creators claim to have placed particular emphasis on improving "interoperability with Microsoft's proprietary file formats". Libre Office 7.2 Community should now be able to open large files and DOCX and XLSX files from Microsoft Office faster or better. Interaction with older Microsoft DOC files should also work better now. Unlike Microsoft Office, Libre Office does not use a proprietary format to save files, but the Open Document Format (ODF). The update is also said to improve performance in managing the caching of fonts and in opening presentations and drawings that contain large images. Libre Office 7.2 is now also available natively for the "Apple Silicon" processors. " .

I could never get on with Libre or Open. So as I only use word and excel programmes, I begrudged paying for the whole of office just to have 2 programmes.
I searched and went to Rakuten, and paid 0.99c for a licence key. If Microsoft were more reasonable and just let you buy what you use it would be better, but that's just my opinion

We ditched MS years ago on my husband's insistence on switching to a Linux OS.
I ranted and raged for a while but then got used to OpenOffice, then LibreOffice. I wouldn't want to go back now.

Another vote for Libre Office. Another vote here .. Although I received a free copy of Office when I bought a second hand laptop some years ago and discovered, in the paperwork, an unused voucher for an entire authentic/certificated downloadable copy. So I use it on that laptop .. but actually prefer LibreOffice which is on my other laptop.
