Very heavy frost here last night .. -5.7° 😱, and as we're on the coast it's extraordinary. Since we arrived in France I can only remember one other winter when we had such low temperatures extending over a number of days. The sun is shining brightly now but we're still hovering around 0°.. brr, it's too cold for ⛄

Frost so thick it looks like snow. Also -5.7 overnight, now a balmy 1.5 Celsius.

I woke up to -5 so I presume it was colder overnight. Bright and sunny now but still not much above freezing. My stray cat hasn't turned up for his breakfast. I hope he's OK.

Last winter I only had to break the ice on the horses' water about 3 times. By the end of this week I shall have easily broken that record. There's currently 100% chance of snow, but it seems we might get away with none just yet. Thankfully there's virtually no wind, so it doesn't feel too cold.

We had some light rain overnight and temps rose to 4° .. since about 7am the temp has been going down and is now around 1°. This is surely the wrong way round .. it should be getting warmer now, not colder. The sky is light blue but the sun is not shining. This weather is bonkers.

Still mild compared to a winter in the Dordogne we had around December/January in 1995 when the temperature dropped to -16 and due to the previous owner using the original plastic plumbing, we had burst pipes everywhere. The Mairie were sending out large fresh water bidons for two weeks, or as long as people required them. We had two log burners which we put saucepans of water on to heat up. Our local plumber was running around for a long time to get everyone's pipe work repaired. He took best part of three days to repair all our pipework and changed to copper. Minus 2, walk in the park

Coldest morning here, I wait until afternoon before breaking ice on drinkers , otherwise it's a waste of time . Most sheep are in the valley where there is running water. 15 degrees in the house , lovely .

Minus 2, walk in the park Our reference winter was 2010/11. Ten days of -12C/-17C and 50cm of snow. The 'geothermal' heating steadily dropped from it's usual toasty 22C to 16C. If it ever does that again, I'm off to Morocco (a frost-free bit).
