Still mild compared to a winter in the Dordogne we had around December/January in 1995 when the temperature dropped to -16 and due to the previous owner using the original plastic plumbing, we had burst pipes everywhere. The Mairie were sending out large fresh water bidons for two weeks, or as long as people required them. We had two log burners which we put saucepans of water on to heat up. Our local plumber was running around for a long time to get everyone's pipe work repaired. He took best part of three days to repair all our pipework and changed to copper. Minus 2, walk in the park Our reference winter was 2010/11. Ten days of -12C/-17C and 50cm of snow. The 'geothermal' heating steadily dropped from it's usual toasty 22C to 16C. If it ever does that again, I'm off to Morocco (a frost-free bit). houpla, you'll have trouble getting to Morocco at the moment, French neighbours in their camping car are on the Costa del Sol as border closed between Spain and Morocco, both ferry and airports included, from France as well. Morocco is their usual winter destination.

It's just a contingency plan It wouldn't do that again.....would it? What's the problem with the borders, strikes?

It has felt bitterly cold, with fog all day and a high of 0C.

What a pity that the UK doesn't take it as seriously!

What a pity that the UK doesn't take it as seriously! That is the China system and that's working well isn't it!? With effective vaccination regimes, covid is now about as deadly as flu and no one is suggesting shutting borders because of flu.

What a pity that the UK doesn't take it as seriously! I think you need to have a look at the current Covid stats for France as case numbers, hospitalisations and deaths have increased rapidly over the last few weeks. There is a real problem here with vaccine booster uptake which could well cause serious problems over the winter.

Brass monkeys in 22 all have worried looks on their faces. I had to butter four slices of bread for yesterday's lunch. The butter dish normally only needs about 15 seconds in the microwave to get it softened. It took 30 seconds and the butter only remained spreadable for the first two slices. Had to bang it in for another 15 seconds to finish the job. I'm a bit concerned about freezing pipes now and other such pending disasters.

Hovering around zero for the majority of the day, Less than ten minutes of sunbeams. Few flakes of snow but only a few drops.
