That you cannot trust this poor excuse for a UK government, it has been announced today that NI will rise 1.25% and the triple-lock on pensions suspended for a year. Both explicitly contradict the Conservative manifesto pledges.
I know they have to do it and I bet they knew it was likely when elected.
Seriously, whatever respect politicians might expect has been blown away by this duplicitous mendacity.
It's not politicking any more. Just plain deceit.

I think you missed out "any more" from the thread title.

BTW its 1,25% for employees and 1,25% for employers - so grab is 2.5%.
Why not burden the higher-rate payers with a % rise for them?
Why not one-off tax on those making millions on covid contracts?
What has happened to the clamp down on off shore "cheats".
Yes its bad.
Only consolation is that old codgers over 65 with income will have to pay into the new scheme in 2023 - a sop that really hides the reality of the burden on poorer paid people.
Goodness, I already pay more tax in the UK than in France (sic).

Mmmm Ever heard of a Pandemic? I bet this mendacious government hadn’t anticipated one when making those promises. Why let that get in the way of your agenda.

That does seem to be their get out clause. Even if the 36bn the new tax raises equals the amount wasted on the useless track and trace fiasco. And they supervised the collapse of long term care since 2010 only 10 years before their catch-all excuse even materialised.

BTW the sop of 86k cap is nasty too - it doesnt include "hotel" expenses!
May be necessary but why not be open about it in the first place.
Conning the thick.

Why single out this Government? Since a former one blithely robbed me of 7 years pension, nothing surprises me anymore. Just out of interest, though, has anyone asked Boris what he's doing with the famous £350 million a week?

HMRC will always be happy to take your tax. It's the French fisc you need to watch out for. I for one hope they get their teeth in to everyone who wriggles out of paying tax here.

I don’t ‘wriggle out’ of paying tax. I fill in ( well, it’s actually the nice lady in the tax office!) my french tax forms and now I always get a refund! I don’t pay any U.K. tax either, so I feel I’m doing well. I will really object if they ( the U.K. govt) starts to take tax. Don’t really see how they can but wouldn’t put anything past them!
