For someone with a limited budget, who wants to change their laptop for another, or their tablet for a laptop, can anyone suggest the best places to source a reasonably priced machine?

For someone with a limited budget, who wants to change their laptop for another, or their tablet for a laptop, can anyone suggest the best places to source a reasonably priced machine? As Captain Morgan indicates refurbished/reconditioned are available and, IMO, the best way to go. Earlier this year we got my OH a reconditioned Dell (just happened to be the best one our nearby computer shop had of those immediately available) with a year's guarantee (I paid a bit extra for that) .. usually the warranty is 3/4 or 6 months on these machines. They come free of any crapware with just the basic stuff you want/need on it .. and will usually offer to add any particular programme/(free) AV etc for you. I prefer to add the stuff I know my OH wants/needs on his machine myself.

You could try the "pawn" shops... Maybe there are more now there than the normal cash converters I am used to.
Computer shops also sell reconditioned models at fair prices and you now where to bring it if something fails.

We've bought lots of items from this company...all reconditioned with guarantee and great customer service...we once had a problem with a phone we'd bought from them and it was replaced immediately, with no questions asked...we didn't even have to send the 'old' one back! I see they also have some with english keyboards, if you want one...definately worth a look... www.backmarket.fr/ordinateur-portable-reconditionne.htmlI think they'll also buy your old items, even if they aren't working...though I've never done it, so don't know how it works.

There are TV commercials on this company here in Spain so seem to be Europe wide.. Worth a look.

Thanks, people, there are some good value ones on Backmarket. For the moment, the laptop's not for me, mine's still going, though the mains adaptor is starting to play up.

You should easily be able to get replacement adapters.

I have been buying my computers, printers etc from MorganComputers for nearly a couple of decades - initially from a couple of shops in London and now on the net. It's always been top quality stuff and I think much comes from NHS.
The devices are refurbished and come in grades of appearance. This is being typed using a refurbished Dell PC and a refurbished HP screen.
I am a very satisfied customer.
As for delivery to France - well, who knows, don't ask me . . . . . .

Only the best for the NHS - Management that is. My professional one and imaging equipment were cr.p without massive fights.
