The ultimate insult to the UK is that the French have not recalled their ambassador.

It means they are after something!
The French have also called off free trade treaty talks with Australia, a country with which they have a substantial trading surplus. Clever, eh?

This "holier than thou" attitude of macron is going to be hard for Le Pen to fix next year...

The ultimate insult to the UK is that the French have not recalled their ambassador. “Great Britain in this matter is a bit of a fifth wheel on the carriage,” French Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told TV channel France 2 Saturday evening. also "Le Drian explained France’s decision by hinting that London had merely been a bystander in the military deal and therefore was not worth Paris’ wrath. “We know their constant opportunism,” he said, referring to the U.K." Now that's the humiliating truth

I thought that it was an arrestable offence.

Thanks for the link, that looks like a fairly reasonable analysis and I’ve seen similar in a couple of other places… Sadly most of the most popular sources can’t get beyond their glee at (as they see it) the French getting an industrial kicking but it’s whole episode is much much more serious than that.

It does indeed set out a case as to why Macron is so angry. The article is spoilt in my opinion by the anti-EU, bow to the US bias that tries to counter his anger. Johnson sitting in a corner like a nasty little schoolboy stirring that pot. As expected from yet another new right-wing rag. brokenbottleboy.substack.com/p/the-weird-history-of-the-cow-site

"Communication is not necessary in a protest."
Then how does anybody know you are protesting?

As Plog says, a reasonable and objectively credible analysis, spoilt for me by the comments, the makers of which who seem to ignore any sensible point the article makes.

Keeping off the political shenanigans of this, I marvel at how easy Australia were noosed by the US and led so easily into their corral.
Australia has always taken pride in being a non-nuclear country. All the way up to the top this has been a long and solid agreement. Are tax payers too going to be reined in? I somehow doubt it. Maybe we have not heard the last of the deal.
Tou very interesting points in Unherd: with the US deal, Australia will see less work and less technology - such is the American way of doing things that maybe has escaped the Australians. Secondly, the winners are China! they now have another ten years to bull doze their way around the Pacific with impunity.

Have looked again at the comments this evening...... I note that when I read them (very) early this morning several were blanked and awaiting editorial review. Need I say more?
