Stupid childish nonsense when the French ambassadors to US and Aus are recalled over the old fashioned submarines. Just shows how the French politico industrial machine manages the State. French diplomacy failures writ large!

Try looking at this in another way. The ambassadors did not get wind of the upcoming aukus conspiracy so were they doing thier job? As for old fashioned subs, if you order diesel/electric engines, you will get diesel/electric engines and they will be state of the art. when you live near a potential threat, it is not far to go to refuel so who needs nuclear/ steam turbine. The steam turbine was first described in 1551 (acc Wiki) is that old fashioned enough for you? If you have ever worked in a steam engineroom with leaky shaft glands and condensation filling your shoes, you would wonder why a sub would ever have a steam engineroom.

The interesting bit is that they haven’t withdrawn anyone from London suggesting that, contrary to what the British press is saying about Global Britain’s part in the action, the U.K. is actually nothing but an insignificant pawn in the game.

French diplomacy failures writ large! What are you talking about? A contract has been signed and for no valid reason the terms are immediately shunned. Of course the injured party will be upset, and rightly so. As for the politico industrial machine running a State - umm, yes, it is called economy.

French diplomacy failures writ large! The American Military-Industrial complex will have had it’s sticky fingers all over this deal so let’s not think it’s just the French…. P.S. Not sure why the reference to old fashioned submarines? The Aussies initially specified diesel-electrics, which are very much still produced and have their uses.

Well, if one can give the BBC TV show 'Vigil' any credence, it might seem that nuclear powered subs regularly run on diesel...

Germany needs to rein in France as this deal is the best for the western world against the threat of China.

Britannia rules the waves and don't you ever forget it. There's a song about it and everything.

nothing Renault about a diesel/electric sub. And certainly nothing RR about a yank or UK nuclear/steam sub. I know an old shipwright who built them in Chatham and his stories about them made me wonder how they float ( and when they did they needed tons of starboard ballast to get them on an even keel). This deal is all politics and certainly not a reliable counter to asian/Russian threats. The argument is about the Aussie renege on a legit French contract and the US UK involvement. It is really dumb to ask Germany to back this deal as it was probably the German MTU deisels that were going to be used and have now lost out.
