She's been there for a long time and been, arguably, incredibly good at her job, but in 3 days' time, Angela Merkel will no longer be the Chancellor of Germany.
Is this a good thing, a bad thing, or does it depend on her successor?

Germany survived Kohl's departure. It will survive Angela's. Arguably a move to the left will take some of the wind out of Alternativ fuer Deutschland.

Of course she isn't. Don't you know your German constitutional law?

Impressed with the new chap when I heard him being interviewed on the Beeb. He speaks better English than wot I do, which probably isn’t surprising as I’m from Norfolk !!

An advantage for European leaders, they can't be tricked by leaders of English speaking countries into believing something was the fault of interpreters.

Macron is also a fluent English speaker as was Mr Chirac. I would have thought it a prerequisite that any budding leader of a European country has a good level of English.

Does anyone know if the aspiring French presidential hopefuls speak English or not?
