I'm sure he fought until the end. But he couldn't cheat death.

I'm sure he fought until the end. But he couldn't cheat death. Nope, he lost that battle.

A true original. Wish there were more like him as opposed to the slick systems puppets that seem to proliferate everywhere in public life.

I watched a long reportage on his passing during lunch and discussed him with friends, I thought I knew a lot about him but it turned out I was only aware of a fraction of what the guy had done in his life, very inspiring.

Many moons ago my Belgian friend living in Provence was a sports reporter for Paris L'Equipe and later La Meuse back in Liege Belgium (That will make Woolybanana stand up) I bought an apartment not too far from Marseille and I took the chance one evening in 1991 to go with him and watch the team play at home (Stade-Vélodrome). After the game we were in the press and players area and my friend was interviewing Jean-Pierre Papin the superb centre forward then at Marseilles when Bernard Tapie stopped to congratulate Papin for having a good game. My friend took the chance to ask for a quick interview, which Tapie graciously gave him five minutes. First thoughts were what a handsome sod and secondly how he had massive presence. I was then over dinner given a resume as to how the fans and people of Marseille loved him. For the very short moment in time I was stood next to him, I just felt that he felt the same towards the people of Marseille. He truly was a outstanding man, yes he crossed the line but he was regardless of anything, a true French socialist. My friend sent me this, he said this was left outside the ground and reported in the press and on the TV...... "Marseille ne pleure pas, elle se réjouit de vous avoir connu" Marseille is not crying, it is happy to have known you

TF1 are doing him the greatest of honours; not only was the journal de 13h mostly taken up by his life, now it's the turn of the journal de 20h.

A lot of time devoted to Tapie. One hell of a character who lived life without giving a toss. One guest, actor Pierre Arditi said he lived his life like an acrobat without a safety net. A man of endless parts who left hundreds of millions of debts which the children have to pay off or not, if they choose to renounce the inheritance. RIP

Ah, Ricky Rocket, my old friend, how are you? Still about had the usual mid to old age setbacks even Covid but barely knew it, had the pcr test, it showed positive so stayed in isolation and fine afterwards. Anyway how are you, have you seen the Meuse lately, my friend moved back from Provence some time back, first to Liege and now living in Huy.
