And from what I saw earlier, the Texas governor's response to the question of allowing abortions for rape victims: "We're gonna stop rapes happening in our state", or something equally stupid along those lines. Unless and until they stop rapes happening in the first place (a very unlikely probability, sadly), abortion needs to be an automatic right for the victims if they have the double misfortune of becoming pregnant after such a repugnant act.

I don't think it has much to do with Christianity (what you would call "superstition"): this is the American religious Right, after all.
Here's a thought: no-one in the civilised world actually believes it is solely a woman's right to choose whether to have an abortion, because (as far as I know) every civilised state sets time-limits on abortion.
