We have a distinct lack of field mushrooms in the paddock this year. Normally by now we'd had freshly made mushroom soup for a a few weeks, but this year - nothing. I know all the spots where they normally grow and have been regularly checking those every day. It's so disappointing.
Anyone else had the same happen this odd weather year?

Isn't it too dry, and cold at night? Rain forecast next week, and if it brings warmer night temperatures, you won't be able to move for them

The paddock never properly dried out this summer in that the soil underneath was constantly moist - not like in the previous 3 (at least) summer droughts and we had mushrooms grow then. We had a good heavy shower about 3 weeks ago and normally 10 days later we'd see mushrooms growing. It's certaily chilly at night now, but this is later than we'd expect to see them popping up.

We had lots in June & July but nothing since.
Normally September/ October is good.

There's nothing normal about this year. I've been waiting for two years to re-sow the 'lawn'. October would normally be the optimum month, but unless the promised rain materialises next week, no chance!

There's nothing normal about this year. The climate's practising social distancing.

It might be time to harvest. This morning I saw one!

It could be that you picked them all within the last few years and have not left any to spore over the ground.

That's a thought. But there are always plenty to spore as the horses' feet inevitably slightly damage some - enough to make me reject those.
