How bizarre. The two big companies highlighted in the show, Ryanair and UPS. We have had big, frustrating, problems with both wrt France. UPS very recently. We gave absolutely specific instructions how to get our house - eventually even down to the GPS coords., but it took 3 weeks until we realised that they were not reliable and no way would they deliver. They were naughty, even to the extent that on the internet they said it had been delivered to the back door. After advising that we had been in all day, sitting on the terrasse next to the "back" door and even if we had missed them for some strange reason we thought that our rather large dog would have indicated their presence to us, the parcel was some how found. Two weeks later and still no delivery despite lots of emails. The company we had bought from ( we bought a newtonian telescope) were absolutely great and refunded our money. Other deliveries to us, from chronopost and DPD, no problems. DPD once did use a drop off point which was no problem. Ryanair - say no more! Booked a flight for our family from East Midlands to Limoges some years ago and at the same time booked through them for car hire. 24 hours afterward the booking we had an email from them advising that the car hire was not now available. No way could we get another car or get to Limoges pick up a car there. It was 9.00 pm arrival anyways so we would have been totally stuck. They point blank refused any refund because the flight had taken place!! Irony is that car hire at Bordeaux airport is much cheaper and even allowing for motorway tolls and higher air fares its still cheaper to go that route. Also , we have never used then since. I suppose the point is that if its cheap its not always the best option. NB with UPS we did challenge them to produce a photograph of our rather impressive/unusual back door

As far as Ryanair go, I imagine you get what you pay for - if you don't pay much, you don't get much. As for deliveries, why not choose a drop off point each time? That way you can be sure that you won't be mucked about.

UPS - Yes we have learned from that experience that the drop off point is the best option (except from chronopost which is local and excellent, for us anyway). NB The company that we "bought" the item from did not have any other option other than UPS delivery. UPS must not have a drop off option. Probably due to cheapness again. Just a heads up for people, as it was strange that these two companies appear not to be good in the UK as well as France.

Are you saying that you booked and paid for car hire, that they subsequently said they couldn't provide, and then refused to refund the money for the car hire!

No. We booked the car hire then the flights through Ryanair. The car hire was cancelled 24 hours later which meant that we had no means of onward travel from the airport and so we could not use the flights. The flights were not changed or refunded.
