Or even the plants that don't seem to realise that they've got to adapt to the brave new world? At a time when the buzzword chez les ecolos is bio-diversity, we're going to find ourselves more and more limited to growing drought-resistant plants that will stand being flooded in winter. There aren't many! Adaptation takes many years and won’t be seen in our lifetime, let alone over the course of a few years. Meanwhile we’re going to have to suffer the consequences of our actions which is destroying the current bio-diversity. Eventually a new bio-diversity will emerge but goodness knows what fate will have befallen us by then… Possible that a "new bio-diversity" will not include humans. Think about that one.

I think that is a " given ", we humans don't deserve this planet.
Maybe a few will be left in an ark or something , history is a circle .

First runner beans for us today , all is looking good , just a vole that needs catching, eating the roots off the celery , and "somebody" is removing a leek-a-night ! We always have too much veg anyway , so not a lot to worry about.

Tomatoes doing well - no sign of the dreaded blight this year in this hot dry weather. Runner beans not liking this weather though even with copious watering. Going hard, stringy and beany very quickly. Lots of cucumbers, dwarf beans, beetroot, courgettes, peppers, Swiss chard and my potatoes in a bin grown in soil collected from molehills and garden compost have produced a marvellous crop! Growing carrots in a large tub to protect from carrot root fly, again in soil collected from molehills and garden compost which are growing well too.
Generally though, the garden and wild flower borders is pretty frazzled looking and our 15m deep well will soon run dry if we don’t get any rain soon. 😢😢😢

We have far more toms than usual this year. Spent yesterday afternoon and this morning making sauce, for spag bol, chilli, etc., 12lts so far. Roasting the cherry toms and bottling with garlic and olive oil, 14 ½lt jars. Judging with what's still to come, possible 3 times as much. This is all without the new plants being brought on from the trimming of the main plants. Bad year for the pêche de vigne due to losing a lot of the flowers earlier in the year, but still possibly 150 on one tree.

Our tomatoes 🍅 are staying green and not turning red. I've tried picking one and putting it next to a very ripe banana, it still hasn't reddened.

Ditto here...the polytunnel tomatoes are ripening now, but they seemed very late considering how much sun and heat we've had. As for the rest.....orchard, potager and ornamental....watering in rotation 24/7 is just about keeping everything alive, but how much longer without rain FGS?!

All our toms are grown outside and have been since planting out in the first week of May.

I don’t do much gardening, I tend to just do containers of herbs, salad stuff and a few tomatoes, recently I saw a TV programme where they grew an interesting herb called par-cel, which is a cross between parsley and celery flavour, so I thought I’d give it a try. I rely on internet for advice, I already knew parsley seeds were hard to get going, so I did what it said and soaked them, also instructed to discard any floaters, but that turned out to be about half the packet (Suttons Seeds) so I’ve planted them in two batches, the floaters and the others and I’ll wait to see what happens.

I've always discarded floaters as advised but never had half the packet do that. Commercial seed is a gamble, especially for herbs. Really fresh seed is the key to success, so tapping up a friend or neighbour who has plants gone to seed (assuming they've got what you want to grow ) is a much more certain way. Coriander, parsley, dill and even basil self-sow here, so if anyone wants some fresh seed, PM me I've also got a rather large quantity of parsnip seed!
