Much corruption stems from the lucrative employment MPs can attain from companies for 'lobbying' (read 'cash for questions')
If it were that MPs cannot have paid employment, and it was rigorously enforced, there would be a huge drop in corruption.

Both of you are reading into what I said things that aren’t there. Obviously Jackie is a Labour supporter, so has a degree of partiality. My view - expressed but not understood - is that both the major parties are less of an example of moral leadership than they ought to be. Let’s not waste time pointing the finger at the other side. Instead, let’s recognise the faults in the party we support and encourage change. For clarity, I support none of the major British parties, and view general elections as an exercise in damage limitation. I’m actually a Labour member but am currently truly exasperated at the infighting and shenanigans going on within the Party. I’m in no way saying they are perfect but at the moment harping on about Labours failings as though they compares with the seemingly unending corruption going on with within the Tories is a bit like focusing on a chip fan fire while Rome is burning....
