Tomatoes have always grown well at sewage farms. Are you all SURE you have never eaten any? I wouldn’t be!… they used to sell them near where I lived…

We've grown butternut squash and so on on the muck heap and as far as we know they haven't tasted of horse pooh. But then, we've never tasted the horse pooh ....... On the other hand, the squash have been delicious.

Some farmers in France spray sewage over fields, those that empty the odd fosse. You should be fine, Mysty, as you don't eat veg.

A topic for the new environmental forum.. What goes on in rural France has nothing to do with what's illegal or not; many a blind eye is turned, even if it's more difficult to block the nose.

Combining your fosse septique with hydroponics methods might solve the problem of rising food prices.

AS if this were something new. Yorkshire water used to market a fertiliser called "Yorkshire Bounty" - guess where that came from.

The best and most prolific potatoes that I have ever grown were planted on the spot where moh used to dump the stuff from her horses stables.

I've seen tomatoes grown on the waste from a whisky distillery - they were not for sale!
