My nephew has 2 jobs. He works evenings in a fast food restaurant and days at the University. He is back at work. Every time he goes into work the Covid app pings him and tells him he has been in contact with someone with Covid. He has to self isolate..no money from the fast food job..regular phone calls from track and trace threatening to report him to the police if he doesn't answer the phone. He finishes his quarantine, goes back to work and same day gets pinged twice. He tried to get a covid test but 2 hour queue. He has no symptoms other than he is now really depressed so BIL had to drive down and see him because he was so worried. I would just delete the app..what would you do?

Assuming he is double vacc'd, then I'd tell him to delete the app.

Hi Linda, a tricky one, if he is the UK, why doesn't he delete the app, order the free lateral flow tests from the NHS and he is effectively in charge of his own destiny, test every two days and if he gets a "positive" test go to a PCR (free) testing station before returning to work. His mental health is at risk, he must do anything he can to stay safe but ultimately he needs to earn money and keep his sanity. Good luck and keep us posted

Dump the app. Don't let smartphones rule your life.

I'm with you, Linda.
My niece has been in a similar situation, last week being the latest. She does twice weekly lateral flow tests because of work anyway, she'd logged a negative result, next day got pinged as having been near someone, she hadn't actually been out for two days. Booked a PCR as instructed, also did another LFT, negative. Results of PCR came back two days later, also negative, but she had to remain in isolation. I said for her to delete or switch the app off.

It is being suggested that the UK medical profession should replace the app with daily (and I think that is important) Lateral Flow Tests. The LFT is far from perfect (almost all tests of all kinds for all things are imperfect) but it rarely gives a false negative so can be considered as fail safe. I would suggest that others who are being inundated with pings do the same - and especially if mental health is coming into the equation.

Yes..it seems ridiculous doesn't it. His parents told him to delete the app and to get some lateral flow tests, He has only had one vaccine so far ...awaiting his second. Apparently everyone his age is getting ill, even those who have already had Covid. I do feel sorry for him. He worked hard in isolation and managed to graduate with a first...he has a short term contract at the University ( they are letting him work from home), but can't give up the other fast food job in case the University can't renew his contract...all his university friends have either gone home or moved away..

If you turn it off when you go out what is the point of keeping the app? You're not going to catch it at home are you? The Delete button is somewhere in "settings".

I would bet my pension we're not going to be infected here at home. Been double jabbed with the Pfizer vax and both are fit as a butcher's dog. Apart from mrs.A and myself no one else has set foot past the door in nearly two years, nor have we shaken hands with anyone in that time. Shopping is maybe once a fortnight at the most and I disinfect the trolley before going into the supermarket and keep dousing mrs.A's hands after she opens a cooler door.
And we don't carry a mobile phone with us when we are out, nor is there any network signal here to receive a ping or other directive from the so-called authorities.
