As I understand it (I have no plans to go) there is a form to complete for the French authorities before leaving.

Interesting that people coming from Ireland aren't subject to the same restrictions - yet ANOTHER Brexit bonus?

Thanks for that Crabtree, so back to attestations again, it's the French nationals that could come unstuck and have to justify their motif impérieux or be refused embarquement
As before a French resident UK citizen with a carte de séjour and a brass neck can come and go between France & the UK freely without hindrance, covid tests & vaccinations aside.
That reminds me, I should book a booster jab.

Professional reasons surely mean to go to work?
So can my OH go to work in UK next week?

MOTM, as far as I understand it, travel for professional reasons is not allowed, except for priority health workers and transport professionals.
I don't have time to look right now, but maybe someone could help MOTM by posting a link to the official version of the rules...

His employer has written today attaching a letter saying he is a key worker and seafarers are exempt.
Big but, it's in English not French.
He plans to get a PCR on Monday for travel on Wednesday as he did throughout the last 2 years.
Of course I'm secretly hoping he won't be allowed to travel so he is here for Christmas instead of working 😉

MoM2, if you look at the tableau of les motifs impérieux you will see that simply having UK nationality allows him to travel to the UK and being French resident allows him to return, they are effectively the motif, its only the French or other nationalities that need it to be a funeral etc to be allowed to visit the UK.
They seem to have forgotten that there should be the same motifs impérieux (funeral, caring for relative etc) for people from the UK to enter France, as the document is at present they cannot.

However, I'm sure that getting a certified test within 24 hours of travelling won't be easy...
"Attention les tests auto-administrés, dont les résultats ne sont pas certifiés par un laboratoire (ex : tests fournis gratuitement par le NHS), ne sont pas autorisés pour voyager. Le NHS indique qu’il n’effectuera aucun test pour voyager. Il convient donc de recourir aux structures privées proposant un service similaire."

MoM2…
The key here (as I am sure you realise) is whether traveling on transport worker status gives any exemptions or relaxations when it comes to testing… it generally has done so far but I’ve not yet heard anything definite through the grapevine..if I do I’ll let you know.

Throughout the pandemic he has always tested, even though he should be exempt.
It's not worth taking chances.

Throughout the pandemic he has always tested, even though he should be exempt. It's not worth taking chances. Fair enough, personal call, but to some extent it depends on the job and how rosters and rostering works. Certainly many of those who have shuttled between the UK and France multiple times a month for work reasons in the last year have found the exemptions fairly essential. Having said that as it looks at the moment I can’t see and haven’t heard of any exemptions even for them in the latest rules for entering France so it will interesting to see how they get on.
