Preparation by us both and for just 2 humans - although quite a number of felines may well get a taste of the Chapon. Just because there is a large number of courses, don't tink that the plates will be piled high for each course. Little and often might well apply. If I remember correctly, you have more than 20 cats - surely a chapon is a bit on the small side for all of you?

I’m going to a friends for lunch. She’s French so it will probably be along the lines of fois gras, oysters and other seafood, sanglier with a smattering of veg, fromage anda couple of sticky dessertes. All I know is that 1. I won’t be alone. 2. I won’t have to do any cooking this week-end and 3. Finding gift will be relatively easy with all the stuff I have ‘left over’ from my move! ( it’s all new and handmade!) great!

We feel very fortunate this year as our dinner is special, I have found two small cabbage leaves in the garden, the slugs have had a bit of a nibble but they will be fine, also I thought the larder was bare but right at the back there was nearly half of a stock cube, so will boil some water and add the small bit of stock cube and the leaves simmer for five minuets dont want to overcook such a special dish then serve while singing a Christmas carol. Job done

All home made.....Tarka Dhal, Lamb & Spinach Madras, Chicken Tikka Masala with chapati and shop bought pickles......with buttered steamed Basmati rice Twas nice, couldn’t get fenugreek leaves fresh or dried, so had to buy seeds, boy was grinding those down in a pestle and mortar difficult, I couldn’t have put any calories on yesterday 🤣

it’s been interesting reading about all your Christmas meals, also the thread about disastrous meals!
We had venison with a plum sauce for Christmas day lunch, thanks to M. Waitrose, with roast potatoes, roasted parsnips, red onions and mushrooms with plenty of garlic plus sprouts, followed by M. Waitrose’s chocolate and salted caramel tart and cream. We had a glass of Piper Heidseck brut as an apéro - well, I had a couple of glasses, my husband just a mouthful due to his various medications, with a bottle of Crozes-Hermitages with the main course.

We actually had a slice of packaged turkey, between two slices of homemade bread and a bit of sage and onion stuffing, that was good enough for us, and nothing wasted.

The time has come after drinking a bottle of Bouvet Saumur to attempt the Nyd roast dinner of beef rump with all the trimmings, even sprouts.......but most importantly, Yorkshire puddings........

Yes I’ve also enjoyed reading about the variety of meals and the disasters, last year I think I may have already mentioned I bought a turkey and then couldn’t use it and I had a bit of a job chopping it up for the freezer, this year, same turkey supplier, really lovely, but I’ve decided it will be the last one I’ll cook, mainly on account of the effort involved but also the price approximately £90 just not worth it. Rib of beef has been suggested but that can be a bit fatty so we’ll wait and see.
