For lunch we ate roast lamb, potato gratin and roast squash, followed by chocolate and salted caramel profiteroles (bought from Waitrose not made by me!)

Rosemary Roast Chicken from a recipe copied from a Jamie Oliver book.
I made it once before and it was delicious. The ingredients called for butter beans, but I couldn't find any. I did find a tin of 'haricots beurres' (knowing darned well they weren't what I think of as butter beans) but they were OK. I reckoned the only reason the French call them haricots beurres is because of their colour. So I went online and found them in French as 'haricots de Lima', which I still couldn't find. So tonight I'm making it with haricots blancs.
Have any of you found butter beans in the shops here?

So do I. They seem to have a distinct flavour that other beans lack.

Prawn, courgette and dill linguini. Been gardening today so something quick. Never seen butter beans here although Bio shops usually sell more varieties of pulses than supermarkets. Love their creaminess…

You wouldn't think food could make you cry, but I've just taken the last tub of last year's blackberries out of the freezer. The handwritten label tells me that it was my late husband who picked them, probably just weeks before he died. So the last human hand to touch them was his. I shall eat them with the plums he picked at the same time.

Normally works, until you stop.

I personally wouldn't work myself to a standstill .. but have a good cry instead. It has always served me well in similarish moments.
You might then feel washed-out but, on the other hand, afterwards you might feel slightly less scrunched-up inside. Ready to face the next challenge. This usually works for me, but, the big difference is I haven't lost a loved husband.
Edit : To not be accused of thread drift we had my OH's take on paella this evening and it was delicious. Actually the original recipe is from the Family Circle International Cookery Course Cookbook circa 1970.

No lack of tears. I work, tell my husband what I've achieved, then I cry.
But to get back to the thread. Last night I had chicken casserole with brocoli, followed by blackberries and plums with yogurt.

Just made an Orange cheesecake with Kiwis on the top, and autumn berry, and rhubarb sauce to have with it.

My friend who has a house in the village suggested a walk and a picnic. She is vegetarian so fairly simple with cheese ,salad , hard boiled egg, tomato and a large pain. Throw in a packet of crisps and a chilled bottle of rosé a picnic table by the étang de Saint Bonnet and it was perfect. My dog was very well behaved and there were lots of other walkers and their dogs enjoying the sunshine .
