Neighbours house, nice area nice houses and plenty of manufacturing companies if someone was looking for work. Loads of pictures to make smaller to fit this site. The house was built in the 70s full height cellar. You drive into the garage and have a staircase up to the first floor. The house is solid just needs a kitchen, bathroom and decorated. I just had to confirm the price before I re confirmed I will buy it and signed for it. We were in and out the house with pre prepared contracts signed within 30 minutes. The property was left to the state and they just wanted rid of it. view from our one

You must have been relieved there wasn't an abbatoir or similar at the back at that price! What a find. Looks a lovely area. The leafy wallpaper in the hallway looks the same as my mum had in her front room in the 50s! That was posh paper in a room only used for Xmas and the insurance man.

I think the wallpaper was origional from when it was built, from memory almost every room was papered, she took proper pictures and videos of everything I just took some pics on the phone. Our only worry was someone offered above the asking price but they said the sale was blocked when we said yes please. We googled the area and did a drive by, even if there was something bad close by as long as it was not too close we would still have bought. It's a protected area no cutting down the forests.

So your 10-hour aller retour was worth the effort, then.

So your 10-hour aller retour was worth the effort, then. It's a good buy and not easy to find at the price, tank and a half of fuel and a big autoroute bill at the end of the month. We have plenty wasted trips which is just part of the job. 900 and something klms.

"Full height cellar"?
Sous-sols are usually 2.1-2.2m, the open timber door seems to be scraping the ceiling.
My current property was sold by the liquidator and like you I was advised to pay the full asking price (willingly as it was a bargain) so that it would be taken off the market and no subsequent offers could be accepted.
That is a real bargain.

That is a real bargain. Not sure why you think I would say something has full head height that I have been in if it did not. You say the garage doors are scrapping the ceiling but unless you viewed this property before us which you did'nt you cant say anything about the garage doors. But I was there and if they did scrape the ceiling they would pull the central heating pipes down so they dont scrape the ceiling. It has a full size internal staircase from the cellar to the first floor. I have attached a picture count the blocks and allow for the cement that's been used in the building process and it comes to over 2m. If you send a picture through to FFS by email he will be able to post your 100.000 bargain. We just sold a huge resturaunt/bar house in Dordogneshire for 21000 euros sound like you could have over paid if as you say its a wreck but a picture helps. Our seller was not liquidated he popped his clogs.

For me, a full-height cellar means you can stand upright without banging your head on the ceiling. It's not often you find cellars where the ceiling height is the same as the ceiling height in the living room/bedroom etc.

Not sure why you think I would say something has full head height that I have been in if it did not. I do not think you said that, you said "full height cellar" and not "full head height cellar", standard dwelling ceiling height in France is 2.5m plus a little bit for lifting the 2.5m wall board to meet the ceiling board, that leaves 40cm above an internal door frame or 30cm above an external one, all figures approx. Most sous-sols are 2.1m, I know this very well because I have been searching for the holy grail (to me) of one with a 2.5m ceiling height or more for a vehicle lift. The last photo shows the ledged & braced door very close to the ceiling hence my asking if it was 2.1m high. I am not sure why you making this a contest or saying that I overpaid, I have already complimented you on how well you have done and what value it represents to my much smaller, much more expensive similar purchase in terrible condition, I am very pleased for you. It looks like a very nice area as well.

It's not often you find cellars where the ceiling height is the same as the ceiling height in the living room/bedroom etc. Yes I can see that especially when using the English term of "cellar" or the French "cave" which as you say you often have to stoop inside although as they are a thing of the past people were shorter then.
French sous-sols are usually 2.1m unless someone adds a floor screed, I simply was asking if it was 2.1m because I dearly would have loved to have found a property with a 2.5m sous-sol, I found one with 2.2m.
They do exist because the previous garagiste in the next village had his workshop in the sous-sol complete with vehicle lift, specifying it at the time of construction would only cost one more rangée of parpaing and more soil to be excavated and removed or spread out.

My cave here has 2.1m headroom now but only after someone before me has excavated a further 30-40cm from the terre battu sol in doing so undermining the bottom row of bricks holding the whole building up, it has no foundations and the lower course is now undermined by 100-150mm.
Given that the chalk turns to mush when saturated its a recipe for disaster should the area flood, but it did in 2001 and probably many other times in the last 100 years without affecting the building.
