Where in the lakes are you going? I'm assuming you're off to the English Lake District? The Langdales Jeez, you're minted. That's where my well off friends go. I go to Silloth or Grange over Sands. Enjoy.

I asked because of your dislike of the heat. 35-40° (at Tours ?) Yes it can get that hot in Tours in June/July/August. Certainly in the last few years. It is not just about the air temperature but the intensity of the sun. I can deal with the heat at the moment, but it gets worse every year. So what is it going to be like in 5-10 years time ? Apart from the stress on your body, it also the stress on your house. Especially around here (and all over France for that matter) it is a very big problem. Also, I can tell from the garden, the soil needs water already. So yeah, if I was thinking of moving to France from the UK 'climate change' is by far the biggest consideration when choosing a location. That means Brittany.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Nope, currently no desire to but am very aware of never say never. Have important healthcare needs which compared against experiences of those in the UK with similar needs are inferior to those here.

No. For the first time in 40 years I could just about envisage moving to a francophone country with a better climate, but Britain, no.

I left UK 51 years ago and have never had the urge to go back and put the lights back on. I somehow doubt there is anything left of how it was in my memory. Reading the news, it sounds like it is a terrible place to be.

Climate change does not just mean hotter summers. It means potentially more rain and particularly stormier weather. So hurricane force winds will become much more common and just possibly actual hurricanes. Brittany would be one of the last places in France I would chose if Climate Change were the motivator for a move.

So where would you move to...in France if climate change was a motivating factor ? Apparently (according to some news site I read some time back) an average of 90 people will move to Brittany everyday for the next ten years. It is going to get a tad crowded. On the plus side Ardvarks house will increase in price

So when users talk about UK, are we looking at one homogeneous mass? Are we saying that London, Enniskillen, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Kirkcaldy, Chipping Norton, Donaghadee, Truro, Port Talbot, Portree, Rathlin, Matlock etc all share the same characteristics?
I know a bigoted airhead like albf needs these prejudices to justify his puerile posts but surely not everyone pictures the UK so narrowly?

You can always "block" her/him if you want. Him...thank you. Though I am not sure if that is a gender anymore mind you But I was born a him. Listen, I have just woken you all up. Your forum has come alive again. You don't have to thank me. Anyway, I am off to the lakes tomorrow. So it will be back to playing countdown until I get back. That is of course I will not be banned....which I will be. Here comes Striding edge ! Confidence comes from knowing your strengths and abilities. Arrogance is based on an exaggerated view of one's importance. I think you might just have crossed the line.

Personally, I would say yes. When I go back to the UK I see as a homogenous mass. People are nice. People are the same. Same stuff in the shops. People won't see that at a local level, but from an outsider, yes it is pretty much the same IMHO.

You have to differentiate between humour and arrogance. I write like I would talk when I am in a pub having a laugh. Talking of which, where is my best mate Ally ?
