That includes french homeowners with second homes not just foreigners. Although interesting to note that the Daily Fail recently presented this as an attack by the French on English second home owners. Cue Dambusters march and cry God for Harry and St George.

It's supposedly based on the rental value and so they've put it up by 7.1% inflation rate nationally but the thing with that is, rents can't go up by the inflation rate - only by the rental price index, which this year was 3.1%. Bit of a swizz!

I read that and fell about laughing, talk about bla bla just to say everything is the fault of dirty foreigners.

They actually did a second article about a particular couple who were going to have to sell up because they couldn't afford their 1400 a month tax fonciere bill for their 5 bedroomed holiday home bought for 42k - but then had to correct it later because it was actually 1400 a year. They're unreal the way they write and it's hard to believe that people actually read it and believe it.

I don't mind paying a little extra in TF what's the alternative, look what's happened to Tim. He can buy fish and chips, walk to the theater but worse than anything else speaks to neighbours now. France trumps the UK in so many ways okay my current neighbours smell but they are only here till the grass runs out. baaaaa

On Thursday, my immediate neighbour's rabbits escaped into our garden and it took us until 10 pm to catch them, the neighbour was so pleased as she was going away for a few days on Friday. If this carries on I can see us getting dinner invites!

mine went down this year to 468 from 538. Principally due to 'dégrèvement habitation principale' of 100.
so I guess that I just got lucky..........

Here in Brittany towns and villages have to my mind excellent public services. Sports venues, school canteens, decent school meals, clean well run swimming pools’, well maintained roads and infrastructure, garderies for children etc etc. I know this doesn’t all come from TF but the money has to come from somewhere. Meanwhile look at low tax Britain with it’s failing infractructure, public and health services. Not to mention prohibiting child care costs for working families, kids not being fed at schools etc etc.
Not to mention a corrupt government whose main aim seems to be diverting tax revenues into their own pockets….

I wouldn't say Britain is low tax when it costs £1468 for council tax (about the same in euros as m foncieres was last year) for a two up two down terraced house in NE England. Bearing in mind that my place that cost that (but is now 1810 after this year's raise) is for two houses and barns on a plot of 1350m2 when the terraced house doesn't even have a proper yard.

Well it looks like some of you are paying a lot more than us. We once got hit with around about 1200 for TF for a house we restored and was living in, we sold it the following year. This years TF range from 600 for a modern fully restored 4 bedroomed home on mains drainage ect. 3 hectare farmhouse in dep 19 250 ish unrestored. Otheres range from under 100 to around 800 for a shop and the flats above it. The prices vary from next to nothing to not a lot for a lot of property.

I've downsized and moved closer to the city, mysty, so we're on the bus network to make it easier for my son to get to and from lycee and be able to get around the area generally. Smaller house but big on convenience - and only 360 a year for tax foncieres, so much better than the one I've left and the other bills should be smaller too. I was going to sell the pair of houses I left but landlords kept coming to see it and in the end I was convinced to let it instead, which I may live to regret yet! I've sold off two other houses which were expensive for tax foncieres (centre of a village and in the city) and also needed lots of work to get them out of the DPE G class and am glad of that now it's time for the bills to come in!

Plenty of people have no issues renting out property and it gives you an income. Have you heard from Jo S recently, I have seen nothing from her on FB or anywhere else for a long time now.
