Yes I read that article today, similarly it was reported elsewhere, who would make that massive and dangerous journey unless they had to? What does annoy me, unless I am misinformed, is that the EU doesn’t really support places like Greece and Italy where there is a big problem, just leaves them to get on with it, and neither does it take action against members who just point blank refuse to admit asylum seekers.

And those that have stepped up to the plate get castigated for it at home and abroad - Merkel.

I heard on French news today that the UK is considering changing the law for illegal immigrants so that the maximum sentence is 4 years, not the 6 months it is now - where is the empathy in that?

You haven’t actually read the article have you or looked into this whole matter in any depth other than what you have read in the tabloid press. Your comment highlights your total ignorance of the whole matter. Give your head a wobble. Did you know that more refugees have died in UK detention centres than have died at sea crossing to the UK? That’s how ‘cushty’ the UK is you ignorant, obnoxious excuse for a human being. Go back to leching at women American football players in their bikini bottoms.

Bald Eagle is entitled to his opinions, regardless where they originate. We can argue over which newspaper is good or bad and it will be totally pointless. It is well known that all media is guided by someone behind the scenes that has an agenda. Those who think they know which one is telling the truth is deluded.

It is all the empathy that the racist current Home Secty, herself a migrant, can bring herself to muster. There is nothing like a reformed smoker to condemn smokers... What her excuse for a brain does not realise is that four years in a UK jail is probably far preferable to many in desperation, and worth making the trip for.

That’s true about reformed smokers Hal, I’m definitely one of them !
I reckon the longer prison sentences wii actually encourage more refugees to try to get to the UK. If these young people are prepared to risk their lives to get to the UK then maybe a few years of being locked up/ looked after is seen as a small price to pay ?

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how the refugees that so many misguided brexit half-wits voted to expel, are so much more clever than those of us who have to hurl insults across the road. Here is a young lady who has mastered the language (I assume she did write her long read..) in a way I could only dream of and in maybe a quarter of the time. I have come across many examples of immigrant university graduates driving vans, doing whatever is necessary to keep bread on the table, and then on TV in the evening having to watch the young unemployed British who refuse work because it is beneath them. Taking everything into account - Britain is ceasing to function.

Funny how describing, say, any politician as an "ignorant, obnoxious excuse for a human being" would be seen by many as reasonable, but when such a comment is made about a forum member, it's suddenly not acceptable.

I suspect it is because forum members, no matter how despicable they may be, are unlikely to make decisions that affect millions of people in any significant way.
