Three members liked the comment . And they are respected members as well.
Funny how describing, say, any politician as an "ignorant, obnoxious excuse for a human being" would be seen by many as reasonable, but when such a comment is made about a forum member, it's suddenly not acceptable.
Well said.

As Admin, I see any and all reports about any and all posts. The post in question has been reported by a member, however that member has not yet made any posts on the forum since joining, even though s/he has liked a number of other members' posts.

Bald Eagle is entitled to his opinions, regardless where they originate. We can argue over which newspaper is good or bad and it will be totally pointless. It is well known that all media is guided by someone behind the scenes that has an agenda. Those who think they know which one is telling the truth is deluded. It’s not about where the opinions originate though or what paper is good or bad. The article I linked to was a first hand account not an opinion piece written by a hack. The myths about refugees have been discussed many times, with BE taking part and and still trotting out the same old tropes that have been disproved over and over again. To me the ignorance and inhumanity of his comment was even more highlighted when justapositioned against the eloquence and very uncushy experiences of the Syrian writer of the account which is why I called it out as such. A bit harsh but true.

When I join a forum I always wait a couple of weeks before I post as I like to get the measure of a place before I contribute I didn’t realise it meant I couldn’t have an opinion, My sincere apologies

Coming back to the article, it seems that the author has not settled in Britain but has gone to Greece to help her fellow country people who are in need. Was Britain so terrible for her? She mentions racism and bureaucracy and forms to fill, but does not mention any of those folk or organisations who reached out to help her and her family who have reunited, or give them any credit, housing for example, maybe safety, job and or study opportunities. Pity.

I have not read the article - no interest - but it has to be better their than in Syria with bombs falling all around.

Perhaps your reporting of my post would have been given more serious consideration if you had contributed to this forum so admin could get a measure of YOU. Everyone one is entitled to an opinion. It’s making the opinion count is what matters.

You are purely baiting people here woolybanana. Why? Oh dear, Grumpyish, you are becoming obsessive. Surely your Public School taught you to examine text and viewpoint critically which is what I have done and presented another view. That is allowed on this forum I am sure though you seem only to want to allow party approved views.

Cushty compared to the rest of Europe otherwise why do they come over here having passed through numerous EU countries? That's an ill informed statement Bald Eagle. The EU accepts many thousands of migrants, whereas the UK begrudgingly accepts a few. And then they get treated like a subhuman species by people with the same views you spout. Have you no sense of humanity? Imagine if it were you or yours suffering the same trauma. You were happy enough to come and live in someone else's country, move around freely and expect due respect and protection of the law. How about giving the same opportunity to some other poor souls. Shame on you.

Pity. I don’t think it’s that difficult to understand why she would want to now help fellow refugees. Why is it so difficult for you? Why would it mean Britain is so terrible? I think that particular statement says more about you than her. I really don’t get what you mean by her not mentioning the folk or organisations who reached out to help her and her family. If she hasn’t mentioned them where have you got the idea there have been any folk or organisations who have helped? Sorry if I have missed something here.... You boast about your analytical capacities regarding text but they clearly lack any understanding of emotions and empathy and how they can drive behaviour. From your previous posts, Timoth, you sadly see the world as a what’s in it for me kind of place and assume that everyone is the same. If I were you you I’d have a long hard look at the narrow lens you analyse texts through.

You are evading the question Woolybanana.
Goodness, why am I becoming obsessive? OK do not answer that - I am not an obsessive person.
But you are throwing back at me a question to evade my question.
Sad.

jackie, the whole of this debate stems from your uncritical presentation of the article and an apparent refusal to accept a different view of the piece. Strange.
