jackie, the whole of this debate stems from your uncritical presentation of the article and an apparent refusal to accept a different view of the piece. Strange. No, I would be happy to accept a different view of the piece if it it stood up to scrutiny which yours didn’t.

Why do not they stay at home and help rebuild their country?

Why do not they stay at home and help rebuild their country? Because at the time they left they were in danger of being killed in their country, viz this quote from the article:
Have you read the article, Ibis?

Why do not they stay at home and help rebuild their country? I am assuming this is intended as a serious question?

Coming back to the article, it seems that the author has not settled in Britain but has gone to Greece to help her fellow country people who are in need. Was Britain so terrible for her? She mentions racism and bureaucracy and forms to fill, but does not mention any of those folk or organisations who reached out to help her and her family who have reunited, or give them any credit, housing for example, maybe safety, job and or study opportunities. Pity. So where does it say she has rejected the UK? I may have missed it but................. As for not settling in the UK, where does that leave you and me and a whole host of other members? WE have not settled in the UK. So by your measure we too are all outcasts. Is that really what you meant? Or perhaps you are plying for TOTW award. TOTW = Troll of the week.

Funnily enough I was thinking of another 4-letter word beginning with T.

Why do not they stay at home and help rebuild their country? A country which the Taliban is taking again taking control of after Western troops have departed? Or the war-torn one they fled from? Where is the rebuilding? You are entitled to your opinion of course but it’s an ignorant one and counts for nothing.
