Its a funny old market. When I first arrived the expat sites were full of ads for old Breton granite water troughs priced at anything up to 600€. They seemed to be snapped up pretty quickly considering the difficulty of lifting them onto a trailer that wouldn't collapse under the weight and then off at the other end of the journey. Most recently I spotted an ad for one of the old fugly concrete lavoir washtub things. Actually asking money for it. Clearly they weren't satisfied having it shifted for nothing but wanted cash for watching someone else break their back.

That is a lovely bit of stone, glad to see you are doing your bit for the age old tradition of recycling.

Pfffft why just break one law when you can casse a handful? Well least time I seriously overloaded a vehicle, the cost of sorting out the knackered wheel bearings was quite a bit more than hiring a trailer for the day.

Not sure it over loaded it, the suspension was good no where near as low as it is full of timber and drove better than towing it.

It did not go quite to plan today, I loaded up the customers truck with stone but was too heavy to take the arch, so it's half dismantled. He is about one and half hours from the property but did not come back in the afternoon for the rest. The other man coming for stone in the afternoon did not turn up either, it was like 36 degrees. Pulled a lot down.

What a shame Mysty , so much work ( and love) must have gone into the original building. No respect left, we have lost a lot on our journey !

Clearly they weren't satisfied having it shifted for nothing but wanted cash for watching someone else break their back. One of those was left at my property amongst the 30m3 and counting of concrete & rubble & the 400kg and counting of scrap metal that was all supposed to have been removed, I took it on the chin rather than spend 10 years paying avocats and not being able to move in. The concrete lavoir I thought was going to be a real challenge but after giving it the good news with a sledgehammer for a couple of minutes the rest broke up with a club hammer once I had found where the reinforcing rods would be.

So what temperature was it if it wasn't 36°? I'm surprised you hadn't put the canopy back on given the heat, perhaps there was not room in the van for it.
My pal stopped work with his digger at my place a month ago and won't even think about restarting till Autumn, his has an enclosed cab albeit with the door that can be folded back and the front screen that goes up into the roof, he says it was a big mistake and he should have had one with an open canopy like your new one.
It was 40°c in my caravan when I got back at 20.30, outside has dropped to 30° but its still 35° inside, I dread to think how hot it would have been this afternoon, working outside all day in full sun was preferable to coming inside.
I hope you didn't have a long drive home in a non aircon equipped van.

I could not lift the canopy it was too heavy the van was just used to move the digger the hyundia has aircon and chilled seats that's the work car. The house sale gets completed early July so the work needs finished. Now looking for a van with aircon.

If anyone gets Freesat channels on TV I recommend you have a look at "Aussie Gold Hunters" on Dmax (Ch 150). They run their diggers and heavy machinery all day in 40+ temperatures. They have to make their money while the dry season lasts or before it gets into the high 40s depending on where they are working.
Puts things into perspective.

Don't tell Musty that, there is a history going back centuries of gold mining in the Limousin. Armed with that mini digger and a metal detector he will be digging up all those gardens ..
