Cheer up JD, you live in a beautiful part of the UK.
I love the contrast with UK and France, both have their places, we have been in Brittany for 10 days now and all jobs are done and looking forward to going back to the UK on Saturday, so now to enjoy ourselves, lunch with friends tomorrow, shopping on Friday.
I think you will feel differently when your house is fully renovated in France and then you will see what rural life is actually like, I drove for 15 minutes today through two villages and didn't see a soul.

Unfortunately not Sue, 11.30 am, the children are still on half term around here, farm just 100m up the road have three daughters, two are in their early teens, we know they are there but not seen outside for 10 days. The weather until today has been in the early 20's and no rain, we are the only people who actually walk a dog in our nearby hamlet of over 40 houses and plenty of dogs, if fact people come out to chat or pretend to do some gardening so as to catch us as we walk by around the same time every day.

Are you sure they did not know you were coming? "The British are coming. Lock up your daughters and wives!"

Nor here. Are you sure they did not know you were coming? "The British are coming. Lock up your daughters and wives!" Again, unfortunately not, the distinct lack of UK registered cars in our area of Brittany is a very sharp contrast even to the same period last year, I have seen less than 3 UK registered cars in 10 days, not that I am looking for them but it just shows the lack of UK tourism in this part of France during a UK half term, normally we are avoiding tourist hotspots. The ferry we came over on had only 60 vehicles on it, we had avoided a Saturday crossing as that is changeover day here but still... We are not on the coast, about a 20 minute drive to a selection of beaches but near a tourist lake with all the watersports, indoor/outdoor swimming pool, 6 restaurants, bar tabac, weekly market and normally bustling, it is also half term for French schools but still very quiet.

I would say that if people don't like peace and quiet then don't come to Brittany. Or at very least get in close to the larger towns/cities. I don't expect to see anyone out walking dogs or for pleasure during the hunting season.
