That is what my 2 water bills this year have added up to for my 1m3 consumption of mains water
Getting connected to the mains was not one of my better decisions, I did not realise that the cost of water here was much higher although for the little that I use it's not really the issue, it's the standing charges which are 10 times higher than I was used to.
Now that I have had a year to find that the well water does not run dry and seems to be of very good quality (I will have it tested) I think I will pay the disconnection charge and bin off Suez.
My question is does anyone have tout à l'égout but no mains water? And if so how are their sewage charges calculated, is it a forfait?
Also an idea of how much they pay for assainissement would give me some idea whether disconnection may not be cost effective, my sewage charges are low because it's based on the 1m3 consumption although still higher than i was used to but there is another eye watering standing charge.

Your water cost sounds expensive but as you have worked out every area is different. The same goes for mains drainage. Do they not charge for your rubbish collection yet?that's worse than your water costs.😀 Welcome to real France

Don't get me going on rubbish collection, next year I will be paying €260 which will entitle me to, wait for it................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ 8 collections a year Thats right, 7 weeks between collections at €32.50 a pop Now it's true that I wont have even filled a fraction of the bin in that time but it will be minging after 7 weeks in the summer sun. Back in Picardie the new system will be half that price (still double what it used to be) for a fortnightly collection. In the main town less than a km away they still have 2 collections a week!

Your water cost sounds expensive No the water is dirt cheap, only 69cts, its all the other BS, the abonnement, the taxes and the taxes on taxes that adds €249.97 to the bill

What is La lute contre La pollution?
In my book the fight against pollution is redolent of how to take money off of the unwary.

I doubt it very much that a commune would connect it's sewage system to a house without a water connection, the opposite is valid obviously. Our abonnement only , costs €43.88/year

It's this old French thing about solidarity....we also pay a proportion towards flood defences although we don't live in a situation subject to flooding. You put up and shut up or make alternative arrangements, e.g. pcpa's well.

There is always a choice. Take it or leave it. But, seriously though. It depends on who you are and how you look at it.

I quite like the " old French thing " Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité We feel quite at home with it, just got the invitation for the communal repas ! We pay for the ordures , but never put anything out .

I used to admire the principle but recent events have destroyed my 'solidarity'. As for the devise....when you've studied French history as we did for nationality, you realise what a mockery today's France is making of all three. The spinning going on in revolutionary graves would be enough to fuel a couple of major power stations if harnessed The social, communal thing is something else and there I'd quite agree....it's heartwarming. But will it endure?
