Equally I don't recollect @joseph posting about the failures of the North Yorkshire Constabulary as pointed out by the inspectors this week. Don't listen to omegal et al! I live further north than North Yorkshire. But I bet you live closer to N Yorkshire than I live to Paris.

Sorry I haven't replied to the questions posed about my post. I've got visitors and it wasn't easy to find the time. Basically the answer to the problem, which by the way is reported as not being permanent but which would start to reverse in the 2030s, is either increase cotisations or increase salaries to increase cotisations. As for the human element which pcpa says isn't even worth thinking about. Have you never considered starting a thought process with what you want to achieve and looking for a solution? Thanks for that. So the alternative solutions are: Increase cotisations = tax increase where as always when this is a "solution" it hits the poorest most. or Increase salaries = inflation where as always when this is a "solution" it hits the poorest most I am struggling to find humanity in either of these solutions. AS for the problem reversing in the 2030s, that is interesting - are we predicting war and wiping out people or another pandemic. Covid caused the increase in longevity to go back perhaps 4 years in its development - a development that showed no signs of slowing.

I don't do the maths. Others more competent than me/us do that. What I find most interesting is that, probably, most of you on here will not be affected by the imminent changes. But the majority demonstrating are the young. So much for saying we're doing this to avoid them being indebted. They see it for what it is.

Were you so sage in your teens and early twenties? Or just idealistic like many of us were and with not a brain cell of experience to back up our idealism.

Your life seems remarkably similar to another ex-poster even coming down to you both having wives who thankfully beat bowel cancer at around the same time……all this pretence is very silly really isn’t it….

The majority that are demostrating live from the state and are just there to create havoc , look at the footage on the TV. Why destroy other peoples property?
Demonstrate , yes , no problem , but what is happening in Paris is NOT demonstration. Have a chat with local french people ?

This from a lass telling everyone about being married to omegal and then both denying it. Anyway no more from me because all this silliness is only to get me thrown off this forum. Shtum.

I just looked at the origins of the word 'shtum', it's nicked from the German word 'stum' and was thought to have first been used by the Yiddish community living near the N.Yorks town of Selby.

I think that my maternal grandfather must have had Jewish roots. Maybe not. He was from well north of Selby.
