I doubt a cat could manage to destroy a swallows nest given their positioning and building method. Sadly some people just love to hate cats. Excuse me!
You are calling me a liar?
The English neighbours cats destroyed the nests in the cellar and ate the young . I know my French neighbour since I arrived in France , he doesn't lie , neither do I. I do not hate cats , in fact I have looked after everything from Lions ,tigers cheetahs, leopards, jaguars and all varieties of small wild cats , bred Siamees cats and run a boarding cattery for 50 cats , so know what I am talking about . Cats decimate the wildlife , they do it for fun.

Does any animal know the concept of fun? I'll bow out now because I sense that I am being ambushed and I can do without it.

We have 22 cats and last year all of the house martin nests were destroyed and the chicks eaten.
the culprits were magpies - caught them at it.

They're horrible things, aren't they? If we put the cats' food out on the terrace in summer, the damned things are strutting about raiding the dishes and menacing the cats!

Keep 'em well fed , that way they will produce more young for your enjoyment

That article also shows a photo in para 5 where the veggie patch fence has a brick wall foundation, the best way to keep the mole rats (compagnoles) out and away from your root crops. (The wall should go about 25cm into the ground to stop them tunneling under the wall).
