I'm connected to my own WiFi. That's what is so odd. Never mind I'll ring Orange tomorrow. Thank you all very much for your help. I really do appreciate it. X

I just want you guys and girls to know how much I appreciate you trying to help me. I tried my brother earlier, who really is quite tech savvy, and he batted me off like an irritating fly.

Is it possible that I can have an Internet connection but my land-line is dead. Orange say there is a network problem with both Internet and fixed lines down but my Internet connection is working, could it be my phone? As no one appears to have asked the question...can I ask, are you actually accessing the Internet via your phone WiFi connection.? On Settings, if you look at WiFi, it might say something like connected without Internet.

I am connecting to the Internet via my Livebox telephone connection. In so much that it is not VOIP.

So it sounds like your livebox has a VOIP fault.

VOIP is how the telephone works via the Internet ADSL is how the livebox accesses the Internet. If your internet is working but not the telephone, the problem logically lies with the VOIP software/ hardware of the livebox, unless I have misunderstood something in the posts.

Back to the original question: Yes mangetout. It is possible to have internet but no phone. It happened to me just a few weeks ago. I thought it might be the ADSL splitter (the plug into the wall with a connection to the livebox and another to the phone) or the phone. So to check, I plugged both into another socket. No change. Then I plugged the phone into the connection in the back of the livebox. It worked. So the problem was not the phone. None of the local shops had an ADSL splitter Go see Orange they all said. So a 45km drive to the not local Orange shop. No we don't have any ADSL splitters you need to go to your local electricals shop. [ Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh} Managed to borrow another splitter and put that in place and still no phone. I am now suspecting the phone line even though I have no idea how the internet can work and the phone not. Now of course if you suspect a fault you can ring 3900 - but if the phone is not working....... Went to Orange on-line and after eventually trawling through their pages found how to test the internet and phone connections - or better said, how to prod them to test the connections Report back within minutes - Internet, no issues. Next test - phone - problem on the line. GIve us your mobile number so we can SMS you. No mobile due to lack of signal here, so I made one up - and hopefully obviously made up - 0678912345. We will send a technician within 2 days. And remarkably, they did. Problem now solved.

Does your phone plug into the multipin large socket on the wallbox, or plug into the livebox?

It plugs into the wall socket.

In that case, if you plug into the wall socket via an ADSL filter, that might well be the problem as suggested by PE. To confirm that, even if you haven't got a spare filter, you could try temporarily plugging the phone directly into the wall socket without the filter. If that works, then the filter is the problem.

It says the phone is unavailable. Forgive my ignorance, but does the connection to the livebox consist of two parts, internet and phone via one cable? yes 1 cable shares telephone and data. Your phone should be plugged in to the back of the livebox

So its the old fashioned phone and not VOIP/DECT, I know in the UK BT are slowly removing the old PSTN network and forcing people to use VOIP, have Orange.FR contacted you at all to say they are doing similar? When you next speak to them, it may be worth mentioning you use the old type rather than VOIP, as LPTR says, if you remove the filter and plug the phone into the wall direct and still nothing, then it is either the phone, or the incoming line, can you get another phone from somewhere to try? My money is on an Orange fault though.
