Tried that. Still doesn't work. Look at my post from 9:03 pm yesterday. Go online to Orange.fr and find the reporting a fault and work your way through that. If they find a fault, they will send a technician to repair the line.

Thinking back, I once had telephone but no internet after a thunderstorm, orange man came and said he fixed it. It was coming up to lunch time and he seemed in a hurry, so before he disappeared I checked his work and indeed the phone was working, but then the internet was not. He messed about for a bit and asked me to check the internet and it was fine, but then the phone did not work again. He ended up spending a few hours replacing the cable from the pole to the house and then it all worked OK.

So its the old fashioned phone and not VOIP/DECT, I know in the UK BT are slowly removing the old PSTN network and forcing people to use VOIP, have Orange.FR contacted you at all to say they are doing similar? When you next speak to them, it may be worth mentioning you use the old type rather than VOIP, as LPTR says, if you remove the filter and plug the phone into the wall direct and still nothing, then it is either the phone, or the incoming line, can you get another phone from somewhere to try? My money is on an Orange fault though. I've got a spare phone and I tried it out. No go. So its the line. Thank you for your help. Orange are showing a network breakdown in my area so it's confirmed. Apparently it's been down since the 21 May! Shows how much I use the phone, I didn't even notice. What I can't understand is how come I've still got an Internet connection. But I'm glad I have.

Interestingly, Orange have contacted me to say the problem is at my house so they're coming out in Thursday.

Be aware that if the problem is inside your property, Orange will likely charge you for the repair.

Despite Orange saying that the problem was at my house, it would appear that the original statement on their website saying the network was down was correct. The line is up and running this morning as scheduled and my land-line is restored.

@ Mangetout, thx for informing us. Only remaining question: does the Orange helpdesk know about these problem solving capabilities of their own ICT guys and has the planning of the visits of technicians been changed accordingly? Just to be not surprised by a facture in the near future....

I made sure I told them they don't know what they're doing and cancelled the rdv.
