When you moved to Germany and others to France I suspect you did it legally and didn’t throw your passports overboard on the ferry. I bet you didn’t claim to be a minor when in your thirties either. As you say you already had work to go to and if anyone were to apply to be resident in the EU they have to prove they have the wherewithal to support themselves be traceable and not be a drain on the state, the illegals are a drain on the state. I agree regarding the poor UK gov performance which lets up to 70% in. The figure would be much lower if the cases were assessed more thoroughly and quickly. The ECHR is one of the main issues here and the sooner it is amended or the UK leave the better. Yes I did arrive in Germany legally as indeed has every single asylum seeker thus far. Until the proposed legislation is enacted, people arriving by boat and claiming asylum are legal. I am sorry that you cannot accept that the UN (of which the UK is a major player) sets the standards by which the whole world should operate, then it speaks very badly of you.

" stop the boats " is just a sideshow to keep the voters attention away from the real problems . They are so obvious: Climate change and the complete disaster that the present government has inflicted on the British people with their disconnection with reality , but then they deserve it for voting for the idiots.

Garbo still waiting for back up to support your claim that most migrants are economic ones…..🥱🥱🥱
Something tells me it may be a long wait……
The reality of the situation is that in the future there is going to be a lot more people fleeing countries either ravaged by climate change or wars exacerbated by the effects of climate change. We really needs to plan how to deal with this in a kind and humane way instead of demonising these people.
The Garbos of this world are just ignorant, bigoted spanners in the works.

Resort to personal abuse. Lose the argument. Will someone please explain WHY these people are prepared to resort to dinghies to flee France/EU for a better life in the UK. Might hurt to admit but they obviously see the UK as preferable.

Economic migrants? I would have thought you would be happy to have young people to pay your triple locked pension.

garboOf course they do. You have been told why several times before* and seem to have forgotten. You forgot about the UNHCR decision as well. Can I politely suggest you arrange a visit to your GP and request a preliminary dementia test. It does seem worrying that your short term memory is completely shot. * and seem to forget that over 80% don't choose to go to the UK - I will put that down to other causes than dementia but I could be wrong.

Whilst we all focus on the 'small boat' migrants crossing the Channel and castigate the UK government we forget that it is a EU wide problem, nearly 100K people have crossed the Med and landed in Italy so far this year and thousands more have arrived in Greece, Spain, Cyprus and Malta.
Obviously some of these migrants will end up in the Calais area with the aim of getting to the UK but the majority will try and get asylum across the EU. Sadly, 0000's have died in the Med this year but that rarely hits the headlines, should the EU therefore setup 'safe routes' to stop this happening?

It is a " problem " that is not going to go away , it will only get worse as the climate changes . Throughout the history of mankind there has always been migration, either Southwards or as now Northwards. Man is part of nature and nature is being changed by the habits of those that have money ( simply put) No government in the West will stop the migration without using force , which I think will eventually happen. The problem is not only in the EU , the most migrants stop in countries that border those that they are fleeing from. What we see in Europe is just the tip of the iceberg.

Its pretty obvious to me that in order to continue making money the people smugglers need to persuade them that the UK is a better place.

Look at the stats of how many migrants are in Europe compared to the UK. With climate change there will be millions on the move soon to avoid starvation and lack of water have a bit of compassion look at what you are writting. Do you think it would be better to sink the boats or bomb the countries they are leaving?. If one was wanting to sink to your level which im very good at one could say they head to the UK as they are used to corupt people running there countries and the current team Conservitive are very good at the game.
