With a good tip about Carrefour's own brand 'English tea' 😉 Ooh, have to read it now!

What a lot of stereotypical comments - from those who claim to live in France as well as those who claim they live in the UK.
It makes me wonder if many of the posters have moved more than 100km from the base around which their comments are made.

How did such a short article provoke so much response! I'm intrigued to try Carrefour's English tea now. Amazed at the comment that Lipton's Yellow Label tea was so good that they take a box back to the UK after each visit!!! Takes all sorts...

For a start, I never drink tea, which astonishes French people when we first meet.
Our weekly local produce market is pretty expensive, although very good quality. Thierry was saying last week that he’ll have to give up his organic free range egg business as he can’t charge the price he needs to sell them at. We’ve been buying eggs from him for 15 years, they have pretty much kept in line with factory farmed eggs, but the feed for his birds has been soaring up and many people just won’t pay more.
The large Provençal-type market is also expensive; the more American and plummy English voices are heard around here, the dearer it gets. However, it’s great to have fresh fish 3 times a week and locals are pleased to have horse meat on offer as well as the expensive meat in the 3 very good butchers’ shops.

Since when has some towrag's difficulty in finding vegan food justified writing off a country? Standards might have slipped somewhat but it is not all that long ago that anyone starting out with big ideas about becoming a great chef went to France to learn their trade. And Lipton's Yellow Label should be made illegal for human consumption. Total shite.

"The cost of all food is quite high in France, especially at the moment."
"Because producers are being paid properly, rather than being squeezed into bankruptcy by Tesco and Sainsbury's. Farming in France is by no means perfect (and is often less "efficient" than in the UK) but it has a distinctly rosier future than farming in the UK. I'm not sure many people realise (or care) how close to the brink many of the farms we depend on for our food really are."
If only that was true! Most producers in France are just as much under the thumb of the wholesalers and supermarkets as in the UK. At least there is now a strong movement to change that, though. The snag is that you need very deep pockets, transport and a fair bit of spare time to support it.

Do you know that Lipton's Yellow is Brooke Bond PG Tips....? Actually no I don't know that Liptons Yellow is PG Tips. Yes Liptons own Brook Bond but to say the two teas are the same is a bit like saying diesel and super 95 petrol are the same because Shell sell them both. Taste will imediatelmy tell you that they are not the same.2

Well all I can say is that when we had the camp site we had a family stay with us year after year. He worked for Brooke Bond and he explicitly told us that on two days the same tea that went in to the bags for Brooke Bond PG tips, then went in to Liptons yellow label for two days. Don't shoot the messenger but the chap was most insistent. I am no connoisseur when it comes to tea tasting, you could offer me a Yorkshire cup of tea and a Sainsbury's red label tea and I would not have a clue what was what.

The positive comments 'cherry pick' the best bits of France but ignore some of the reality. There are medical 'deserts' which will take years to fix, small rural towns are struggling with a falling population and lack of job opportunities, La Chasse makes it difficult to enjoy the countryside for six months of the year and inflation is hurting just like the UK.
One issue that did crop up time and again was the removal of FOM following Brexit, whether life in Europe is better or not the fact that the majority of people will not now be able to have the experience is perhaps the most relevant bit of the whole piece.
