The Guardian article was tailor-made for provoking more heat than light. About as enlightening as a column debating the pros and cons of a republic!

Yellow tea is about the worst tea I’ve ever tasted. You've got one over on me then. My problem with Yellow Label is that it is so tasteless. When I tried it I couldn't believe how such a reputable brand would put their name on such rubbish. Just to get rid of it I tried 2 or 3 bags to a mug and couldn't get a proper brew with it. Shameful to export this muck to foreign markets.

I wonder why Emma Beddington seems have some sort of fixation on bedbugs? Apart from the fact that 'bedbugs' are the story of the moment in the press ?
Possibly because France is hosting the Olympics next year, which cost a bomb to host. Hence the need to make sure the hoards will arrive en masse and spend their dosh on 'whatever' can be associated with the 15/17 day beano. Plus which country wants to be labelled 'bug ridden' .. a developed first world country at that. OK bed bugs are not dangerous but who wants to be covered in bites and the sight of blood-dotted sheets, pillow-cases etc cannot appear to be inviting

I only drink tea when there's a 'k' in the month. And even if I did, I wouldn't expect any country I moved to (let alone France) to provide tea of an equivalent quality to that found in the UK. When all is said and done, it's only tea. When in Rome etc.
If my move here had been contingent upon everything that I was used to in England being available here, I wouldn't have come.

Yellow tea is about the worst tea I’ve ever tasted. You haven't tried Intermarche tea bags 25 in a box and 'er indoors says it is awful but as has been said, you can't expect a nation of coffee and pastis drinkers to worry about the flavours of the teas sold in France. In the days of our campsite and then the B&B + gites barely 5% of the French clients took tea as we know it but they would ask for infusions of several flavours (we kept a box of varied types bought at the wholesalers), none resembling tea as we know it.

Well all I can say is that when we had the camp site we had a family stay with us year after year. He worked for Brooke Bond and he explicitly told us that on two days the same tea that went in to the bags for Brooke Bond PG tips, then went in to Liptons yellow label for two days. Don't shoot the messenger but the chap was most insistent. I am no connoisseur when it comes to tea tasting, you could offer me a Yorkshire cup of tea and a Sainsbury's red label tea and I would not have a clue what was what. 2 whole days in 55 years of joint ownership does not qualify the statement that the two are the same (as stated suggesting they are always the same) as factual and representative. I would hazard a guess that some c*** up on the supply front lead to a shortage of stock and in order to keep things running they blended what stock they had left for those two days. Alternatively some operative forgot to switch the supply hopper when they switched from PG Tips to the yellow peril and no one noticed for 2 days.
I have seen both scenarios happen in a different industry.

No that was weekly according to our camping client chappie, anyway I am not precious about whether he was right or wrong but he was certain about it but then he only worked there.Oh dear arguing about tea, how bad can it get By the way we sold the campsite back in 1999 and we haven't seen him since but if I should run in to him one day I will let him know your thoughts.

Im on the train on the last leg of my journey back from the U.K. I hadn’t been for a while and was surprised to see how expensive everything was.

The French have not got a clue how to make a decent cup of tea. FTM nor have most British providers.

While buying a month’s supply of Twining's tea at Sainsbury’s to take to France, I noticed that the price has hardly changed over the last 18 months. Unfortunately the boxes of 100 bags now contain only 80. I know this has been reported in the press and is old news but it still annoys me that a reputable company resorts to dubious marketing strategies to retain their share of the market.

When we lived in France some 10 years ago now, Tea was very fashionable but only the infusions, one mother from our daughters school would carry a small caddy in her bag and would offer them around at a cafe or school gathering (bags I am afraid Nifty), her father in law, a farmer in his 80's would warm up some of his own produced cider and then put one of the infused tea bags in it just for a change. He only drank cider and Eau de Vie, literally, no water, coffee, beer etc passed his lips.
