I think 'veganism' can have a political or almost religious aspect to some of it's followers. I prefer the term 'plant based'. My friend who is militant vegan says that the argument that many animals wouldn't exist if we didn't eat them, is okay, as they have been bred and engineered for food and thus do not lead a natural life. She argues that extinction is okay in these cases.
My own view is that I would like to aim to source my food in a way that works with my environment rather than against it. So I live nowhere near the sea and given the overfishing and environmental impact and also the cost I eat less and less fish these days. However in the Pyrenees there is a local producer of bio Trout, so if we are there I don have that if it's on the menu.

So I live nowhere near the sea That's the joy of living where we do .. at the market there are local fishermen who have their own boat who sell the fish they have caught themselves, which means it's fresh. You get there early to buy or it's all gone To clear up a minor point I am not vegetarian as I do eat some fish and fowl, but mostly I eat vegetables - especially from our veg plot when they are available. I also eat lentilles and the like, légumes/pulses.
