I would prefer an operation free life but everyone is different the guy below died of colon cancer. I guess unless your in the position where you have to make a choice you do not know what you will do. Similar age to the OP. parade.com/news/star-trek-actor-alan-scarfe-dead-77

No offence meant, but given the stats you quote (11% death rate at 15 years) do you feel it was worth doing? I have read that many older men die with prostate cancer but not of it. I expect others on the forum will be better informed than me on this quote. I can only repeat what I posted a few pages ago. I friend of mine most certainly died from PC, he chose to not be treated.

No one needs to die from cancer , a complete blood test shows many things, but folk don't do that , a stitch in time and all that? We all take our cars to the garage for a service , weird eh?

And even then I a m not at all sure that the current tests are close to being perfect. the PSA test was until recently the only test we had apart from invasive inspection. It was good but it was far from 100% perfect with false positives as well as false negatives.
Newer test and more reliable tests are on the way.
However let not the best be the enemy of the good.

No one needs to die from cancer As exile says - I assume you mean 'no one needs to die from postrate cancer' and not cancers in general.

I meant what I posted, it may seem a strange thing to say , but people in general don't know the workings of their bodies and wait too long before doing anything . I had a long discussion on this subject with the nurse that came to do the necessary for two weeks . She had come to the same conclusion, folk make themselves ill , then go to the docter expecting a miracle cure.

Absolute tosh. You have no idea how offensive your words are. What you're saying is that everyone who develops cancer is at fault for not taking care of themselves. I'm so angry I can hardly breathe.

You told me that your husband died of throat cancer because the specialist went on maternity leave. Then asked me if I was sure that I did the right thing by having the cancer removed ? I am not being offensive, you are, but you were already that when you PMd me. I don't take offence. Lets leave it at that , we won't agree and I am not interested in arguement.

BREAKING NEWS. Self righteous smallholder in Central France finds the answer to stopping all deaths from cancer. Just take your car to the garage. What a prick.

We take advantage of the tests available to us at our age and OH asks and has a PSA test, generally every 2 years. The doctor said an annual test was not necessary and not automatic so he has to ask for the test. He pees a lot in my opinion. But regarding symptoms of other cancers, tragically we lost my future daughter in law to colon cancer at the age of 33 in December. She had no obvious symptoms until she had excrutiating stomach pain for 2 weeks. On investigation over a 2 week period, they found colon cancer spread to the liver, she passed away within 6 weeks from diagnosis. She had her colon removed but didn't have the chance to commence chemo treatment. Sometimes, life isn't fair.

In the world that cernunnos inhabits she died because she failed to take care of herself. It still amazes me that anyone can hold such a belief. What happened to your future daughter in law is tragic. A young life cut short. So sad.
