That’s why so many Dutch people speak English so well! One reason is because all the films on their TV is in English with subtitles ( or was when I lived there.) Also not many people outside of the Netherlands speaks Dutch!
You mean apart from Afrikaans and Flemish speakers? Admittedly both dialects of Dutch.

Afrikaans is just old Dutch , I have a friend from SA that I can speak with. Vlanderen was of course part of the low countries in various forms.

First venture out yesterday. Lots of " ca va maintenant" from supermarket personnel and our prefered routier were so pleased to see us Two meals with wine and coffee €37, aperitif offered because we had been away. We love our little corner of France! PSA test yesterday morning , results online yesterday afternoon, 0.006ng/ml , but then you would expect that , not having a prostate! Today rendez-vous with the Urologist/surgeon , then probably get the bill ( nothing yet)

All well with the Urologist , ultra-sound scan was good . He gave me the results of the biopsie on the removed prostate , two tumours ,one on each lobe ( Gleason 7,which gives 11% death rate at 15 years ) so inermediate. No spreading. Three prescriptions , two for blood tests 3 months and 6 months , one for a kini. I still think that the vasectomy I had 40 years ago could be the cause of the cancer , but that is my opinion only.

Not done yet , still the little problem of incontinence , but I am sure that will be solved in time.

No offence meant, but given the stats you quote (11% death rate at 15 years) do you feel it was worth doing? I have read that many older men die with prostate cancer but not of it. I expect others on the forum will be better informed than me on this quote.

I expect others on the forum will be better informed than me on this quote. No offence taken, It is done and I made the decision myself and accept the responsibility for my actions. As we all should? I had one member private mail me ( I find it strange that folk need to do that ) during my treatment .
Quote "Our best friend died of prostate cancer which spread to his bones. I'll never forget his screams at his end."
I have prostate cancer , I prefer to be on the safe side and would like to live a while longer, the tumours could have been malignant and the vesicules seminales could have been touched, but wern't.
It could be that it wasn't neccesary , but then I love life and all that good and bad things that it brings.
Please don't put doubt into other men's heads whether they should undertake the operation or not, leave that to themselves and their docters. I am pleased that I have had the operation and that I know that I have had the best treatment possible .
My reason for publishing the whole sequence of events was to take away the taboe around the subject , most men won't talk about it at all.
I am not finished with the treatment and will let those interested ( mostly men )know what the results are.

Everyone needs to make up their own mind based on the facts and their particular view on life. I would never seek to influence anyone.
As you know, it was me that spoke of our friend who died of prostate cancer. He was young and would have benefitted from early treatment had he not been mis diagnosed by his docter until it was too late. Had he been an older man he might well have died of natural aging before the cancer became a problem. As they say, 'you pay your money and take your chance'. I wish you continued improvement.

I wasn't going to say whom it was that PMd me , but thank you for being honest. My wife was quite upset by what you wrote ( obviously) Her first husband died of cancer with a lot of pain because he wouldn't accept that he had cancer and go and see a docter. I have had PSA tested since I was 45 and digital rectum examinations before that, due to my profession. Prostate cancer is appearing earlier and earlier in men with the decrease of healthy diet in " civilised " countries. A blood test is a simple way of monitoring the PSA levels and therefore keeping track of your own cancer prognosis, in France it is free. I don't agree with " you pays your money and takes your chance" I try to leave as little as possible to chance but pay as little as possible too! Just been to vote, didn't pee in me pants!

I apologise sincerely if I upset your wife. It was never my intention. Having witnessed cancer at close quarters I understand how emotional it can be. I honestly just wondered if you had reflected having been through the process. Glad you were able to control yourself in the voting cubicle
