That sort of snobbery has always been there, it didn't need someone to come along and point out the obvious.

I thought it had abated until the Brexit debate ignited it again. Pity

There's nothing new there. 'Intelligence' snobbery has always existed. No matter what accent you have, if you're bright you'll win the day. But if you're thick you've got no chance. Unless of course it involves brute force. That normally pips intelligence 'cos it hurts more

Brute force as in a referendum perhaps?

No, just plain brute force, ie a thump on the nose. No matter how clever you are, it hurts.

So, was the Brexit referendum a match between intellectuals and the others?

So, was the Brexit referendum a match between intellectuals and the others? No. It was between sense and atavistic tribalism.

So, was the Brexit referendum a match between intellectuals and the others? You know full well it wasn't. It was a match, if tha t's really the right word, between the informed and the ignorant (in the true sense of the word).

Well FFS, It was a match, if that's really the right word, between the informed and the ignorant.
Spot on, as an anti brexiteer (or remainer), I feel they were wrongly informed and I was ignorant of how many of the idiots there were.

Depends on the controlled press that you read.
Please, the only requirement is to just question the source. Perhaps read more than the "popular" press.
If that is not the sensible thing to do then there is a problem.
NB it also depends on what you have to lose. By money, it can be lost by the next generation very easily.
I am aware of many self made artisans who will not leave their firm to their offspring as they think the wealth will disappear very quickly. Going to their workforce instead. Good for them - better to give the ability to succeed to their off spring by means of ability - and I do not mean by sh1ting on those more able than them.
This guy is quoted as centre right by the BBC, but in the present context that means supporting a right wing not anywhere near the centre ( unless including those not inclined to normally vote!!!)
The BBC is controlled by the government - see their appointments.

The problem today is that there is a cohort (to use today's in-word) of people who do read beyond the press - if they read the press at all - and rely on social media for most if not all of their information - for good but more often for bad. There is no or little attempt at verification of the information presented. Why is that? in part they have already been warned off - "they" will tell you this but "they" are just trying to cover up this "fact". etc..
Hence we have conspiracy theories, anti- vaxxers, brexiteers, etc. and it is getting worse. We (principally western nations) are slowly falling into a state of anarchy and perhaps deliberately coordinated by those with vested interests to see a weakening of said culture - but that of course would just be a conspiracy theory!!

When you pay for something you usually get something in return. We've all paid for Brexit but what did we all get? I'll go first. I got eff all.
