Have any/all the TV experts there was once migrated here?
My question - and I remember many years ago this came up but have forgotten the answer - is a satellite dish perfectly aligned for the UK Freesat service also good for the French TNT service? ie by simply swapping set top boxes, can I get good reception on both services from the one dish?
I am pretty well using internet TV through 'NOW TV', but I am looking at my gites. I am transitioning to having more French and Belgian takers than UK folk and really would like to cater for their needs more so. then I remembered the question being asked a long time ago. If the alignment is the same, then I could get some TNT boxes and substitute them for French visitors...

Someone's bound to know, but my reaction went to "red alert" when you said TNT. Terrestrial Numeric Television. Doesn't that mean aerials, not satellite?

It is possible, but you will need to change the LNB holder for one that covers the 9° difference in position of the LNB's. You would then be able to have both services available at one and the same time, freesat & TNT Sat, without moving boxes about. Something along these lines:

It’s certainly possible but I don’t know the details. Later on today I’m going over to a friends holiday home where they have both U.K. and French TV through one dish and one box.

TNTsat is on Astra 1 at 19.2E. FreeSat is on Astra 2 at 28.2E so the dish is not aligned for both. You could receive the two using the same dish is you use a bracket ( support double lnb tinyurl.com/ygcq6yfm) to hold two LNB in the correct positions. But probably only one will receive the maximum signal as the other will be offset from the dish focus. The other options are two dishes/LNBs or a single motorised dish with an LNB with multiple outlets. You will need a TNT specific box which comes with a (5-year?) renewable card rather than a generic satellite box. The TNT signals are encrypted. I use a fixed dish for FreeSat and a motorised dish for TNTSat and for other satellites.

Thanks LeDolly and Elsie - I sort of remember it all now. The problem with multiple LNBs for me is that the dish is some distance from the gites and pulling another cable through might be difficult - having said that, the dish is a 1M jobbie and really could come down as the only time I use it now is if I want anything on 'red button' which of course I cannot get through NOW. I am almost inclined to remove UK TV from the gites as I have less and less UK folk, and as everyone has an ipad these days, TV is not such a requirement as internet is now. (I had one youngster from Paris who turned up his nose that I only had 5Mbs... ) Slightly different question - is it possible to buy a TV in France that has a built in TNTsat decoder - ie does not need a set top box?

I think that is DB's way of saying, "Google it": Television TNT integréNo, it was an answer to the question, yes it’s possible. New TVs come with built in tuners which either connect to TNT via a traditional aerial or through a satellite dish. When looking check that the one you want can connect via TNT SAT. The set top boxes are however very cheap. I would also like to repeat that there is obviously no need to have two satellite dishes or one dish and two LNBs to receive both U.K. and French channels. I’m going over to the house which I know receives both through one dish later today, I will photograph the dish and the set top box they use.

I can get UK and French channels using my motorised dish. I've not needed to use it for some time, but if I remember correctly, the TNTSAT box will decode the UK SD channels but not the HD channels.

If your TVs are fairly recent they should, through an antenna, connect to all the TNT free channels.
As others have said, difficult to use satellite without a moveable dish or offset LNB bar.

I need new larger TVs in the gites anyway and whilst writing here, I am forming an idea to give the gites a more comprehensive French selection on the basis that most visitors are French and the few UK folk will just have to accept that they are in France and use their ipad if they need BBC news. My reason for inbuilt or integre tuner is that with such, it is one less thing to gather dust and have trailing wires.
