I appreciate that one cannot buy a TV here that will have a Freesat tuner. I was hoping I could find a TV in the UK with just a digital Freesat tuner, but parallel to your replies, looking online this might not be so. They all seem to have a Freesat and a Freeview tuner through the antenna. Understandable of course. I guess a Freeview tuner is in no way compatible with TNT broadcast...? So I am going to need a box - either one to get Freesat on a french TV or one to get TNT on a UK TV, yes? As I said you can get a French sourced TV with built in sat tuner. Yes it isn't freesat , so won't have the freesat program guide, but will tune to all the free to air sat channels (ie freesat or sky if you like). It will also receive all the French tnt channels. As I said, I have such a setup.

I meant to ask you about that earlier on lapourtaider - what channels are free to air? Are there enough channels, French and English, to offer a good albeit basic service to holidaymakers?
Also, once the channels have been selected and saved in the tuner, can they 'get lost' for any reason? I do not want to spend time retuning TVs for whatever reason!

A Freeview tuner will allow you to receive terrestrial (not satellite) TNT. However, I'm not sure and I vaguely remember, you may only get "now and next" not the full programme guide? Thanks Exile - I assume then that it is possible to pick up the basic TNT channels - TF1, 2, 3, 5, M6 and Arte on the Freeview tuner? I can live without having an EPG as they have plenty of wifi to get listings from their mobile phones.

So FTA british channels by satellite are all the usual suspects. BBC 1,2, ITV 1,2,3 +4 including their +1s. Channel 4 and 5 plus the news channels and loads of others. The French TNT channels via an antenna are all the usuals, TF1, Fr2,3,4,5 M6, BFMTV etc. You do occasionally have to retune the satellite channels about once a year, and you may have to put them in order but it's worth it as I now have just the tv visible on the wall and no extraneous set top boxes. Uncluttered bliss.

If you have a smart tv attached to the wireless network that your guests use there’s no reason that they can’t cast the French programmes they want from their phones and tablets.

Whichever satellite is used by sky/freesat. An an antenna for the French TNT channels.
