I hope both you and your wife are ok Nifty. A difficult time with ups and downs. I noticed you were posting more on this forum recently and hoped that meant you were feeling a bit better.

Thank you Amandaj.
Things are looking better to me today. I went to the clinic under the impression that I was going for a consultation with my Oncologist. Of course, it did not happen as he was not available. Only in France can one find such coordination? It was quite an entertaining day for me, and, I actually found an up-side to soft overcooked hospital food. I was able to eat quite a lot of it. It is not all good news for me though. My oh is obviously under great stress and I find it very difficult to know what I can do to help ease the periodic episodes of tension between us.

I am sure that it does. She has quite a lot of friends that she keeps in regular touch with. It may be that it takes her mind off of matters closer to home

22/2/22. 3.30 ish
Nerves I woke about half an hour ago. I had some pain in my throat. I also had two prepared doses of powdered paracetamol in two opened sachets. (I may have written before that I do not like to use large doses of the drug but prefer to use a minimum dose that will tide me over. This ploy works more often than not.) I got up and went to recover the drugs from where I left them. They were not where I had left them. I suspected that my oh had been ‘tidying up’ one of the areas that I had requested that she leaves alone. I spent the next twenty minutes looking for the sachets. I could not find them. I think was not a happy bunny, and so,I opened a new sachet and took a rough estimate of the desired dose from it; as opposed to splitting it as closely as possible by division into four piles using a sheet of writing paper. Then, I took the dose while I wrote this.
One of us must be a Saint because I have been living with this intolerable disobedience for nearly a quarter of a century.

Still good news. It seems that events over the last few weeks have given me a new lease of life.
Things seemed to happen so lowly at some stages.. Too many factors to go into detail just now. The future looks rosy, until reality bites again. My oncologist wants to see me in three months for scan to check on effeteness of treatment, or whatever, surgeon next week.
I am not sure what the drill is, to use a term that I’d rather not use. I think that he might sign me off.

On my last visit to the surgeon he indicated that I should consult with my dentist to have something made to wear in my mouth at night. He’s explanation as to why went over my head. I picked up on the words goutiere and thought it might be some sort of gum-shied. Boxing came to mind.
He was far more interested in talking about the pending France v England rugby match anyway, which sort of overrode any further questions I could put to him. I couldn’t get an appointment with my dentist until yesterday When I saw him he explained further.
My current condition makes me suffer from lack of saliva in my mouth, especially at night. Apparently this is detrimental to my gums. The device that won’t be ready until the 14th is supposed to alleviate this problem After that the plan is to head on down to Spain for a month or so.
The trouble with this business is there are so many variables and all one can do is take one step at a time.

And there is the matter of the vena cava yet.
Catheter is still implanted. It hasn’t been used. (Since chemo treatment, except for one or two shots of Medrol and perfusion administered by nurse at my home) I thought the Doc at Pau was just boasting or joking when he told me that he liked to keep it in for a year.

My husband's 'site' or vena cava as you call it has been in for 7 years. Just as well because when he had his 2nd cancer it was used again.

I have not done a lot of reading on the subject recently but I remember seeing what looked to me to be an authoritative looking source that the normal time for a catheter to be in was six months. Seems that the actuality is different. So far mine hasn’t caused any problem. I suppose the upside of keeping it in is that if it is needed again it should be ready to use at short notice.

Life goes on. And on. I am a bit disappointed this morning. What with having my main source of exercise curtailed by inclement weather and all that. The real crunch came when I decided to check and see what my current weight was 63.8 kg. Oh dear! I thought. That is the same, or even less than it was about a month ago. What to do? Try harder to gav myself. Convince myself that it is getting easier ? Or what?

Sounds doable. Looking in freezer now edit. Nah! Ain't got nun. but all is not lost. we do have a lesser mark which has to be used up, so, I am killing two birds with one stone. emptying the freezer and packing on the kg.s + getting rid of maple syrup and boudoir buiscuits. A likely story
