How is that different to what I said? If you think it's the same as what you said, all's well and good, but I had the impression that you thought that those on here who were even discussing it had no right to do so because they don't suffer from the effects of racism. I guess what struck me is the arrogance or even irony of the oppressors i.e white people thinking they can think up a better ways to represent the issue than the oppressed i.e black people and dismissing their movement. For example I have no idea what it’s like to be living in the US and to be black. I’ve read some books about it but I would never think I know enough about the experience for my views and opinions to hold any real credence. The same goes for LGBT issues. I hardly express any views as I don’t know enough about the issue and I’m not LGBT. I certainly would’t criticize any aspect of their movement for this reason too. It’s about being humble enough to realise that your opinions and views may be complete rubbish and highlight your ignorance but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t express them on a forum.

Oops, sorry. Seem to be duplicating rather than saving changes here
Edit by FFS: I've deleted the duplicates, Jackie.

I honestly had no idea what rascism was all about until I spent quite a lot of time in South Africa in the 1970s. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing as apartheid ruled,ok. There are currently three black friends of Malian descent (relatives of my partner) from Compiegne staying at our house for a couple of weeks. Some of the stories they come out with aren’t nice though I get the impression many others have big problems coping. Now, none of that qualifies me as an expert but I surely have the right to give an opinion and make suggestions ? Of course you have the right to do that. That’s not what I’ve been saying 😀

jackie, you are proposing that only a small number can define and discuss racism. We have already seen how an anti-racist movement, that is BLM can be taken over by other interests who piggyback off it to sell their own message. Unless the whole community is involved in discussing racism it cannot be eliminated. As the Eurofoot final showed there is a very long way to go and current approaches are not working. I’m not saying that at all just that they should realise the limitations of their contributions.

I’m not saying that at all just that some should realise the limitations of their contributions. Apologies if my ALM post offended, that was not my intention.

How about a new movement - ALM i.e. All Lives Matter! Yes indeed, all lives matter so I wish they would change to this BLM never said only black lives matter. All lives can only matter when black lives matter. The context of BLM can't be ignored. It was borne out of a situation of undeniable inequality in which black lives appeared to matter less.

I’ve read this thread with mouth agape. A bunch of white people who think they know best on anti-racism slogans and gestures and their appropriateness of use.
That's pretty much the epitome of racism, isn't it? The fact you have a certain colour of skin disqalifies you from doing something?
How on earth do you know the ethnicity of people on here?
By the way, that picture in my avatar ... it's not really me, you know?

I just picked the wrong St Vincent, treiziste
Actually, if no white person should discuss racism, then shouldn't we be telling the white members of the England team to shut up?

I was pleased to read that the GB women’s football team have confirmed they will take the knee before the kick-off of their matches at the Tokyo Olympics.
