I just sat through twenty minutes of listening the address to the nation from Mr Macron. He comes on national tv occasionally to either give updates on how the country is doing or to tell us of new restrictions or indeed to announce important info concerning the security of the country. Anything goes and tonight he gave us a fairly upbeat account of the economy with recommendations on how to improve the welfare of the people by asking the six million (adults I assume) who haven’t already vaccinated to come forward to have the two doses. He asked the over 65s to get the booster jab. He asked people to be sensible in their/our daily life. I have been a critic of Macron since the pandemic began but I have to say I was impressed with tonight’s lecture. He painted a fairly rosy picture of the state of the nation which I suppose was always on the cards with an election looming.

He sounded as though he's caught a cold, though.

I have been impressed by his actions throughout. He has always come over as a concerned leader who has always been prepared whatever steps were necessary. He has made several brave decisions in the past 20 months and has always prepared to follow advice even if those decisions would not be popular. A good leader in difficult times.

He does it every time....has me welling up when he starts on the patriotic stuff at the end. Can Presidents be awarded Oscars? He should get at least a couple About half an hour later, reality kicks in. He mentioned a minimum of €1000 agricultural pension. Five years ago, you could live on that, just. I doubt it's possible now unless you travel by tractor or cow. And there's always this niggle in the back of my mind...this is the politician who suggested that we eat more pulses to get our daily protein. Can't help wondering how many times a week he and Brigitte dine on lentilles/saucisse or soupe de haricots blancs?

I will take his speeches anyday over the, ‘the pubs will stay open but don’t go to the pub’, type advice doled out not far away.

Oh agreed..there's no comparison when it comes to Statesmanship. But he worries me. Either he's incredibly convincing or I'm losing my cognitive abilities

Five years ago I was living on half that, and not much more today. Do I hear violins playing soothing sympathetic music in the background? No. €1000 a month sounds like a whole lotta dosh to some people.

Did I get it wrong, or did he say from December over 50s are eligible for the booster vaccination?
