I have to agree about phonetic 'aids'. Totally incomprehensible! Luckily, most current resources use audio clips too.

Its a shame, its the one part of grammar (except it prbably isn't) that if I understood and could use it would be a real help to me.

The phonetic script of a word is useful if you can read it  . It took me a while to master but I'm glad I made the effort. Though as you say, nowadays dictionaries and such have sound files. For those who don't already know it: Forvo is a good site for checking pronunciation in umteen languages. |
