Ardvark 😃 send it back we get that all the time for uninhabitable houses. If its not insulated has no furniture has holes in the roof or floors which I'm sure will cover your house it's uninhabitable. Even a basic French kitchen and toilet does not make it habitable ie sink and semi flushing loo. I will buy it and chuck in a mini digger as well.

My experience has been that the house is taxable when it is connected to the utilities, water, electricity, sewage. No account is taken into its condition, I think this is explained on the H1 form.

I am assuming that this is a reply to a PM by Aardvark, if that is the case then perhaps the reply should also have been private, Aardvark may not want to advertise to the world his situation.

I don’t think it should be on the open forum

During a major renovation of our house in 06 the mayor told us that if even one toilet was installed then tax d hab would be charged. The reasoning was that you can use a bucket of rain water to "flush" it.

My experience has been that the house is taxable when it is connected to the utilities, water, electricity, sewage. No account is taken into its condition, I think this is explained on the H1 form. Being connected to mains services is irrelevant, there has to be furniture in the building and if there isn't then that tax is not applicable (we have owned hundreds of properties so have a fair amount of experience 😀). Also, if anyone has bought or sold anything recently that is very poor condition and needing to be restored then they will find that the diagnostic reports have changed in that they do state now if a property is uninhabitable and that information is included on all sales contracts. So if someone has a property that is a wreck, they could contact one of the diagnostic companies and obtain a report which will state the property is uninhabitable if they think they need that but we have often just sent the bill back with a letter explaining it is empty and a description of the property and sometimes even included photos and that has been accepted every single time, regardless of mains services connected.

By "advertising" the situation someone who has been in a similar position might see it and offer a solution.

If it wasn't a six hour €100 trip away I would go and do it just for the fun of it.

Why should a thread about tax not be on an open forum. Your assumption is like many of your replies simply 100% wrong. Did you know swimming sharpens the brain scientists don't know why but apparently it does so the tests say. 😅

Curtis I'm liking your attitude, mate. Quite some time ago the old Transit refused to start when I came out of the Brico in St. Jean. Had to walk home from there. Bit of a hike. About 10km I think. And back the next day carrying tools to fettle the starter. If it happened today I'd spend the night in the van and buy tools in the Brico to fix it.

My good man the first post was directed at ardvark and habitation tax I had no idea I had to post full back ground détails before posting. Will try harder next time.
