Sweet potato stew with garlic, ginger and chilli, onion, red lentils, spinach and coconut milk. Sounds awful but we find it delicious. Doesn’t sound awful at all but very delicious. I love that kind of food 🥘

Duck with plum sauce, with roast potatoes, cauliflower and carrots; cooked this evening as we went on a walk this morning, went further than planned, so just had cheese and apples for lunch.

Got the cobwebs brushed off the barby so will see what we can pick up at Super U, just looked through the recipe books for divine inspiration.

The first, and probably the last Feijoada for lunch. I would say that it is a real peasant’s version of Cassoulet. yesterday oh had the pleasure of trying to devour a francesinha. All I can say is the Portuguese really know how to mess with food. According to the story we heard at the restaurant, it was invented by someone who had been to France and thought he could improve upon it. I reckon he may have, if he dispensed with serving it in a bowl of soup. I never realised that she had such a masochistic streak to her personality. It does figure come to think of it

When I was helping someone translate a local resto's summer menu into English we debated momentarily about 'gésiers' as in 'salade aux gésiers' and decided to leave the word in French as we thought 'gizzard' salad would put English-speaking holidaymakers off their choice of meal.

Having become, seemingly, the translater in chief for four local (France) and countless (Morocco) restos, I know what you mean as to how to translate gésiers, gizzards do topple the weak. As with many things, they do not translate well, Pain Perdu (lost bread) & Riz au Lait (milk rice) are another couple that are sometimes challenging to resto staff that immediately turn to google,
