It makes a mockery of the requirement for testing by an accredited 3rd party with a certificate and not being able to use a free NHS home test kit.
The requirement is clearly there because otherwise people would just turn up with a negative sample strip which could have been done by another person, when I pay and go to ExpressTest at Gatwick they test me after verifying that I am really me and not an imposter and they issue a certificate if I test negative.
It's a slick well run operation employing many people working outside in all weathers, they are now being massively undercut by the other companys who can't possibly know whether the person they issue the certificate for was the one who actually took the test, but hey, if it makes someones brother in law or local pub landlord a few million then ist all good!
I seem to remember Johnny using a home test kit from the cheapest supplier and never getting the result and having to quarantine much longer, given that these companys that pop up are all but impossible to contact I wont risk not being able to travel through using them to save money, ExpressTest was about £30 for a lateral flow test and being a frequent user I am confident in them.
I'm surprised that Johnny is not once bitten twice shy, perhaps I have confused him with another poster.

So where is the "mockery"? 1 test is for travel in which should not be free and one test is to mingle with your friends/family without leaving the country..

I have booked a crossing to France for Monday - youpiiii ! - and tried to get my head round the latest French regs. Lateral flow test booked for Sunday; attestation and the other certificate completed and uploaded to Eurotunnel site.
However, I am not sure whether I - a fully vaccinated person - have to take another test on arrival in France. The forms I completed seem to relate to both vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers, with certain parts applying only to the latter, but I think that requirement may apply to both. If so, where would I do a LFT? Or can I just take one of my U.K. ones with me, and do it myself? (There is no mention of having to upload the result anywhere; just to take the test.)

I think you have to do it through oe of the official sites - testing laboratories or the local infirmary.

You can do the test in a local pharmacy. Your own test is not acceptable.

The forms I completed seem to relate to both vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers, with certain parts applying only to the latter, but I think that requirement may apply to both. As I understand it you don't have to fill in the eos form, isolate or take a test when you arrive in France. In the past the French forms have been a bit ambiguous, I remember one of the 'I have not been in contact with covid' one had a section at the end that only applied to unvaccinated people. The above in blue is from uk.ambafrance.org/Conditions-de-deplacementThe last couple of sentences indicate that the authorities can test you on arrival if they wish, I've heard of this happening at the airport where they select a few random people to test.

Glad to see the requirement to fill out the eos form has been dropped. Didn't see the point of it once the need to isolate was removed. That would seem to end the requirement to test after 2 days as well. I would really like to see all this updated on the diplomatie site.

But how do you do the test and send it off and get the results back within 24 hours? I travelled back to France in mid December with a home lateral flow test that cost £12. I ordered a few from different suppliers because I had tested positive 10 days previously and got stuck in UK isolating (got loads of extra work done though ). I wasn't sure how long after the 10 days it would take to get a negative travel test. You order from an approved company. They send you the kit through the post. You do the test yourself at home. After the required time has passed you send them a photo of your test result (sometimes with your passport in the same picture - they all have slightly different rules) They email you a result certificate that is ok for travel to France. I ordered from 3 different companies: NX Healthcare cost £12 result cane through within 5 minutes. C19 Testing £22 result came through in about 1 hour I did one test in the morning and one in the afternoon because although at the time it was test within 48 hrs I wanted to make sure I also had a test <24 hrs just to be sure. I also bought another from Chronomics £19 - not used yet I think I might be able to use my unused kit for travel back to France. I've just booked a trip back to UK for work now that the rules have eased. Worth noting that you might need a different kit for return to UK - the test is the same but you need to make sure you have the reference number for the UK locator form. Did you use the NX Healthcare certificate to acually leave the country Amanda? Or has anyone else here ?

Hi Amandaj
“ The last couple of sentences indicate that the authorities can test you on arrival if they wish, I've heard of this happening at the airport where they select a few random people to test.”
According to reports I’ve been hearing the authorities have been going through a phase of testing almost everybody arriving at Toulouse Blagnac on just about every direct flight from the UK for some time now.
