This time last year there were 3 vehicles on board, even in the summer it barely broke into double figures, someone somewhere behind the scenes must be guaranteeing to cover their losses as nobody in travel & tourism could afford 2 years of virtually zero passengers/clients and looking forward to zero visibility without either going bust or chucking in the towel, I have done the latter.

That is a very high price for the shuttle but at least you have the satisfaction of getting through. We have to wait almost two weeks for our early trip out. Ferry booked for Sunday, Portsmouth to Caen, and covid test booked at Boots on the Saturday. We have to go to the Portsmouth branch of Boots as all the nearer branches had no availability on any day let alone the Saturday. I don’t believe they were fully booked but simply that they were not operational. It is a 70 mile round trip just for the test and it is particularly galling that we pass the BF ferry port on our way. 18 hours later we do the same trip to catch the ferry. At least we have got a test booking and will not rely on the online system which failed to behave itself for my last day2 test. By the way, it costs £30 for each test so I do hope it comes out negative again. Why are you not going for one of the postal tests available lurcher? cheaper and less hassle than boots? The main reason is that our record of six home tests, six clear negative results, one result certificate four days late and one result failed to be received correctly. With the current 24 hour restriction to enter France I would rather give ourselves a better chance of actually meeting the requirement. I could rebook the ferry and have another go if any home tests failed to produce a certificate but we also have four hotel bookings in France and Spain to deal with. Also we must see our son and two grand daughters just outside Barcelona. It’s very complicated for this trip. The next trip in March will be much more relaxed and we will probably buy home test kits again.

Have a safe journey JD. You should notice a difference in France with mask wearing and social distancing, things seem slack in the UK compared to France. It's great the no kissing, my knarly old lady who lives next door but one to me here in Brittany, used to pounce from the hedge when I walked the dog, in her never changed nylon house coat, the one she wears when weeing on her cabbages, hugging me to her chest and kissing me four/five times with hair stubble scratching my face. Not with the dog on this trip but still walk past to the communal bin, all I get now is a wave from a distance. Perfect

I travelled to France on the Shuttle the other day, with a cool box full of fridge leftovers that did Include one illicit unopened pot of yogurt. Nobody looked at anything, nor even swabbed my door handles.

It seems strange to not be able to mark the pleasure of meeting someone in what has been the customary fashion. Men and women. Not sure when that will restart. (although it never stopped with some)

For anyone using NX Healthcare, i whitelisted them on my MTA, but the email certificate actually comes from no-reply@webmerge.me, so you may want to whitelist that address, it seems very automated, so the only thing I could see going wrong is losing your certificate to SPAM or an incorrect email address when filling in the online form......

We fist bump at work, which seems to be doing the same job. Yes, a handshake or a kiss is more intimate, but too often overdone in some parts.

That is one of my pet peeves in France - having to say hello to everyone in the bar individually.. They finally got used to just a hat tip or wave..

I was completely shocked at the level of non wearing of masks in the UK during my 10 days there. In one shop I spoke to the cashier about it and she told me they weren't allowed to say or do anything about it. I felt myself moving away from a lot of people.

lapourtaider, by UK I assume you mean England. I know from relatives that Scotland seems to be tighter - not as good as France perhaps but not like you describe. I am led to believe that Wals is similar to Scotland.

I am led to believe that Wals is similar to Scotland. In response to APs use of UK, I used the same nomenclature. However you are quite correct, I was only in England, in fact only in Hampshire to be precise.

Quite correct, apologies, I should of said England, habit I suppose not to think the expats are not from England but the UK.
